The D100 employs interchangeable Flash Packs or HDD Packs for continuous use on set or in the field. These Packs can be swapped in and out of the recorder like film magazines. The D100 is compact and lightweight enough for camera-mounted, handheld or backpack use. It is lighter than an HDCAM-SR portable tape deck and untethers some Digital Cinema cameras from cumbersome tape decks and processors.
It can be adapted to work in any studio or remote location. Durable, rugged construction and superior resistance to dust and vibration mean the D100 can go anywhere. It is ideal for shooting in challenging situations such as aerial shoots, helicopters, in cars or underwater vessels. A built-in monitor allows for immediate random-access playback.
The uncompressed images of the D100 make it highly efficient in post-production, especially in VFX applications. The uncompressed data can easily be transferred to DPX files, QuickTime (uncompressed) and other data formats.
The UDR-D100 can also be used for 3D acquisition. It is capable of recording two streams of 4:2:2 HD using a 2-channel HD-SDI input. Two units may be synchronized in order to capture two streams of 4:4:4, or more than two HD streams.
