The FS100's large CMOS sensor is equivalent in size to the Super 35mm sensor on Sony's PMW-F3 camera, creating the same shallow-focus look resembling high-end features and commercial production, and also features the optimum number of effective pixels for shooting HD moving images. The exceptional exposure latitude and sensitivity of the sensor delivers outstanding HD images subtle in detail and color gradation while avoiding image artifacts typical of HDSLRs.

The 35mm E-Mount Interchangeable Lens System allows the use of a variety of E-mount lenses from Sony Zeiss, Tamron, Sigma and Cosina, as well as almost any 35mm lens when mounted via optional lens adapters, making your lens options virtually limitless.

The new PS mode with a 28Mbps bit-rate enables the NXCAM Super35 to capture full HD (1920x1080) at 60P. Over and under cranking is achieved through recording images at a different frame rate from that used for playback, enabling full HD (1920×1080) progressive slow and quick motion; frame rates are selectable. S&Q recording plus last scene review permits checking the S&Q effects on-set, immediately after shooting the scene without drilling down menus.

When using external recorders, the NEX-FS100 provides uncompressed 4:2:2 footage via HDMI Output with embedded time code and pull down markers. It can also record HD simultaneously to an optional FMU128 and SD or MS cards.

The compact, lightweight body includes a detachable grip, handle, and viewfinder tube. The handgrip can be adjusted 360 degrees for comfort while shooting handheld, and the LCD panel rotates for left or right side operation. Several 1/4" and 3/8" screw holes on both the handle and the camera body make mounting accessories or the camera itself extremely easy. A large viewfinder tube with 1.2x magnifier converts the LCD into a superb viewfinder.

Sony announced their new NXCAM Super-35, aka the FS100. This little camera has the same sensor as the PMW-F3, but with the feature set and price point of the NXCAM line of cameras. The FS100 has a small body design, not much larger than an HDSLR, but Sony packed in all the features that we find in a regular video camcorder. It has a high-resolution touch screen display on top, XLR inputs for pro audio, and a huge number of function buttons. The lens mount is the Sony E-mount, and the camera will be available with or without an 18-200mm lens. E-mount has a very shallow flange depth, so just about any lens can be mounted with an adapter. The FS100 records in the AVCHD format, and has an uncompressed HDMI output which can feed external recorders.
