AbelCine’s tech specialists provide the core knowledge base for the company. As training instructors, consultants, blog contributors and technicians, they are an invaluable resource for clients and staff alike.

MANAGERS

Andy Shipsides Chief Technology Officer

andy-shipsidesAs Chief Technology Officer, Andy Shipsides guides AbelCine’s development in the areas of technology, technological innovation and digital communication platforms.

Andy also serves as Director of Education, overseeing the development of AbelCine’s Training Department, which he helped establish in 2011. He continues to teach specialized camera workshops.

Andy joined AbelCine in 2007 as a service tech. In 2009, he co-founded AbelCine’s blog, of which he is the lead technical editor. He also wrote a popular "Help Desk" column for HDVideoPro magazine from 2011–2015.

Born and raised in Orlando, Florida, Andy received his Bachelors of Science in Digital Arts & Sciences from the University of Florida and his MFA in Film & Television from the Savannah College of Art and Design. Follow him @AndyShipsides.


Jeff Lee National Training Manager / New York

Jeff Lee joined the AbelCine team in 2009 as a Camera Technology Specialist and Trainer. He was since promoted to his current role as National Training Manager, where he leads specialized classes and workshops in AbelCine’s NY training center. He also serves as a Technical Editor on AbelCine’s blog.

Additionally, Jeff is an accomplished still photographer who has traveled extensively working on documentary projects. His work has appeared in publications such as Shutterbug and he has been a featured Gawker Artist. His photo blog can be found at jeffleephoto.com.

A NY native, Jeff Lee attended Rutgers’ Mason Gross School of Arts where he concentrated in both photography and filmmaking. Follow him @jeffleephoto.


Megan DonnellyTraining Manager / Chicago

megan-donnellyMegan Donnelly joined the AbelCine team in 2015 as the company’s first Camera Technology Specialist based out of Chicago.Prior to joining AbelCine, Megan was the Technical Manager at Fletcher Camera and Lenses / CineVerse in Chicago, where she provided technical and workflow support for multiple features and TV series.She also developed the curriculum for the International Cinematographer’s Guild Digital Loader Workshops, which she taught nationwide.Megan is an accomplished Director of Photography for commercials, music videos, and narratives. One of her TV pilots was a finalist in the New York Television Festival in 2013, while another pilot won the Chicago Television Pilot Competition in 2014.

Corey Christian Camera Technology Specialist / New York

Corey joined the AbelCine team in 2016 as a Camera Technology Specialist based out of the NY office. When he isn’t behind a computer, he’s usually out testing gear or capturing new perspectives with his drone.

Corey is an Avid Media Composer certified editor, and has previously taught Advanced Editing & Cinematography courses in NYC. Behind the camera, he has shot everything from lifestyle and non-profit stories, to destination weddings with his production company, Going Home Productions.

Originally from Farmingville, NY, he attended Flagler College in Saint Augustine, FL, where he earned his Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Media Production & Cinema and Media Studies. See more of his work: goinghome.co


Jeff Marzigliano – Senior Lens Technician, Optics Specialist

As Senior Lens Technician, Jeff Marzigliano is responsible for the repair and testing of lenses that come through AbelCine’s service department. He provides technical support for clients and shares his extensive knowledge of optics with AbelCine’s technicians and staff. He also teaches a Zeiss Cine Lens Certification course at AbelCine.

Jeff is factory-trained Zeiss Cine lenses, Canon ENG and Cine lenses, and Angenieux lenses. He is also trained on the repair and maintenance of Cooke and Leica cine lenses.

Jeff began his career at AbelCine as a Film Camera Technician in 2007 and transitioned to Lens Technician in 2009. Prior to joining the company, he worked for CPT Rental and managed the film and video facility at Five Towns College. He also freelanced in both Assistant Camera and Grip positions. Jeff earned his BA in Communications with a Film and Video concentration from Adelphi University in 2004.


Ian McCausland Camera Technology Specialist, Trainer / Burbank

ian-mccausland As one of the original staff members of AbelCine, Ian McCausland was integral to the formation of the company’s rental department back in 1990. Ian reprised this role in 1997 when he moved out West to launch the rental department of AbelCine’s Burbank operation. He currently serves as a Camera Technology Specialist and Trainer.

Most recently, Ian shot and edited a short-form documentary about vintage travel trailers called Aluminum Skins, which was screened at the 2009 Phoenix Film Festival.

Ian holds a BA in Film from New York University’s Tisch School of Arts. His credits include the 1999 Black Sabbath concert video, The Last Supper, and the 2008 Smashing Pumpkins documentary, If All Goes Wrong.

Juliet McNally Camera Technology Specialist / Burbank

Juliet joined AbelCine’s Burbank office in 2005 as a rental assistant, one of seven employees in that office at the time. When the company moved into a larger building, she also moved into the role of Digital Cinema and Broadcast Technician.

With the growth of AbelCine Training, she once again stepped into a new role as one of AbelCine’s Camera Technology Specialists. She continues to work as a technical supervisor and digital imaging technician on concert, commercial, and feature film shoots.

Juliet earned a B.A. in Film at Emerson College in Boston, where she was nominated for Best Cinematographer and won a Best Advanced Film Evvy Award and a Best Director Award. Follow her @julietverni.


Geoff Smith Camera Technology Specialist / New York

Geoff Smith joined AbelCine in 2015 as a Camera Technology Specialist with a focus on workflows from capture to post-production.

Geoff has a background in technology from web development to content management at companies like VMware, Lucasfilm and Silicon Graphics (SGI). Prior to joining AbelCine, he worked on an independent feature as a DIT and Assistant Editor. A passionate photographer, his editorial and fine art work has been published in newspapers and magazines, as well as exhibited in New York City and online.

Originally from New York, Geoff graduated from California State University, Chico earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication Design with an emphasis in Media Arts. Follow him @geoffsmithphoto.


Nicholas Somera Camera Technology Specialist / Burbank

Nicholas Somera became a Camera Technology Specialist in early 2017. He has been with AbelCine since 2013 when he joined the Burbank office as a Retail Sales Agent.

Nicholas has a freelance production background working as a Camera Operator, 1st Assistant Camera, DIT, and Gimbal Technician. His experience on set and on location has given him a strong perspective in the areas of camera rigging and camera movement. He was one of the first AbelCine employees to be trained with 3-axis electronic gimbals, like the FreeFly Systems MōVI, and has continued in that theme of cinematic movement by adding Steadicam Bronze level certification to his skill set.

Nicholas holds a BS in Film Studies from Full Sail University, where he graduated as valedictorian.
