NAB 2018: Angenieux

Join me for a quick overview of Angenieux's lightweight EZ series of zoom lenses, which are convertible between Super 35 and full format coverage.

Angenieux's popular and compact EZ zooms come in two models today, the EZ-1, which is a 30-90mm T2, and the EZ-2, a 15-40mm T2. Both offer Super 35 coverage in these focal length ranges out of the box. Using Angenieux's IRO system (for Interchangeable Rear Optics), a rear element assembly that increases the lens' image circles, the EZ-1 becomes a 45-135mm T3 offering full format ("VistaVision") coverage, and the EZ-2 becomes a full format 22-60mm T3 lens. The IRO modules are available at the time of purchase or later, allowing you to upgrade these lenses to full format coverage when, for example, you acquire one of the new full format cameras from ARRI, Canon, RED or Sony.

The conversion process is straightforward and can be done by the owner, if you're comfortable working with high-end cinema optics, or by a rental house like AbelCine in our LA and NY locations. Watch the video above to get an idea of just how compact these flexible cinema zooms are.
