NAB 2018: Wooden Camera

Over at the Creative Solutions booth, Ryan Schorman, President of Wooden Camera was kind enough to show me what they have been working on for the Sony VENICE.

First, we have a form-fitting top plate that provides plenty of 1/4-20 and 3/8-16 mounting points. This top plate has been used to attach the Master Top Handle, a modular handle system designed to be customized to operator preference. Next up, we take a look at the AIR EVF mount, which as Ryan explains is functionally identical to the original Sony EVF mount, but at a lighter weight. The baseplate is made of one solid piece of aluminum which ensures that it is lightweight, rigid and dependable.

Making our way around the back of the VENICE, we take a look at the brand new D-Box which allows for V-mount or Gold mount batteries to be used. It also provides intelligent power distribution with two D-taps, a 5V USB, 4-Pin XLR DC-input, two 24V 3-pin Fischer ports with start/stop capability, and two 12V 2-pin Lemo ports. All power output is managed by the board in the D-Box, so you can set things like amp limits so that your camera won't run out of power and be forced to shut down. In addition to the D-Box for power, there is a new A-Box for converting the 5-pin XLR on the VENICE to two standard 3-pin XLR ports that fits nicely along the body.
