As a DP, one of my favorite things to do is to pick the lenses for a project because that is one of the ways to create a look – but often we forget to discuss that it’s the combination of the lenses with the sensor you choose. For this test, I paired the ARRI Signature Primes with the RED MONSTRO camera because I wanted to take advantage of the natural, creamy skin tones of the ARRI Signature Primes with the strong color pop of the MONSTRO sensor. With this pairing, I especially loved the richness of the colors in the wardrobe and background, even when applied to the warmth of the Christmas lights and beautiful bokeh. The skin tone was also extremely pleasing and had a bit of added warmth to it; I felt the Signature Primes beautifully complimented the features of the talent. Most of all, I thought this was a great pairing in order to have the high resolution of the RED MONSTRO sensor but a more organic and softer look with the ARRI Signature Primes.
