The Canon Cine-Servo 17-120mm made some waves when it was released in 2014. Finally, we had an ENG-style servo lens with a long zoom range for Super 35 sensors shooting in high resolutions. This made a lot of people happy in the documentary and TV world, eliminating the need to carry multiple lenses and bringing us back to broadcast camera / lens design. Let’s take a deeper look at this lens.

Expanding on the 17-120mm Cine-Servo lens introduced at NAB, Canon has just announced the new CN20x50 IAS, which features a whopping focal length range of 50mm-1000mm at T5.0 to T8.9.

Zeiss announced last week that they would be showing off a prototype of their servo unit for compact zooms at IBC this year and during the show I was able to stop by their booth and take a look.

At this year's IBC show, Zeiss will be showing off a prototype servo unit that is compatible with all three Compact Zoom lenses. Designed specifically for the CZ.2 15-30 T2.9, 28-80 T2.9, and 70-200 T2.9, the servo features a pressure-sensitive rocker for smooth zoom control and an integrated aperture motor for auto-iris (if supported by camera).

At their NAB booth this year, Zeiss showed off an interesting new option for their Compact Zoom line of lenses.
