Andy Shipsides Appointed Chief Technical Officer of AbelCine

We are pleased to announce that Andy Shipsides has been promoted to CTO of AbelCine, effective immediately.

Andy will retain his position as Director of Training and in his new role will further influence AbelCine's development in the areas of technology, technological innovation and digital communication platforms for our customers and our company.

Andy joined AbelCine in 2007 as a camera technician in our New York location. In 2009, he helped establish our blog, CineTechnica, of which he is the technical editor and a frequent contributor. He has also been writing the popular Help Desk column for HDVideoPro magazine since 2011.

In 2011, Andy created a series of formal training workshops on a variety of camera specific, technology and craft related topics, and shortly thereafter, established an official Training Department within the company, providing in-person workshops, custom consultations and online classes.

In 2013, Andy was named Director of Education and later that year, relocated to AbelCine's Burbank location to serve as the lead technical specialist on the West Coast.

Andy's appointment to CTO is a natural progression of his influence on the company and his growth as the company's chief technologist.

At AbelCine we hold a lot of events aimed at helping still photographers move into the world of cinematography or add video to their creative tool kit. These "Stills To Motion" events are focused on the art of cinema, as well as the latest camera technology. At one such event, we discussed the RAW and Log modes in the Canon EOS C500, as well as the wide cinema gamut found in the camera. Many of the photographers in the room weren't as familiar with these concepts and asked that we translate the terminology into something they could better understand.
