Introducing the Advanced Digital Cinema Series of Online Classes

Our new Advanced Digital Cinema series is launching December 15-18. This series will give you all the technical knowledge needed to advance your career in the Camera Department, including media management and LUTs, working with Log, and building a DIT cart. It consists of four live stream workshops, as well as on-demand materials that you can review on your own time.

Advanced Digital Cinema: Media ManagementDecember 15

This workshop will teach you the best practices, tools and hardware for conducting media management on set, either as a DIT or a dedicated digital loader. Media management is a core camera department function with specific duties related to the safeguarding of camera original files. In this course, we'll dig into the equipment needed, how the role collaborates on-set including responsibilities, and the technical info behind media devices.

 

Advanced Digital Cinema: LUTsDecember 16

Advanced Digital Cinema: LUTs is our new series that teaches the key building blocks of technical knowledge needed to advance your career in the Camera Department. This class covers Look Up Tables (LUTs) and is comprised of 5 chapters covering over 6 hours of content, with each section building on the material covered in the previous one. This series combines asynchronous materials and live classes.

Advanced Digital Cinema: Building an On-Set Digital WorkstationDecember 18

In this class, you will learn the ins and outs of building a DIT cart, with a focus on how to set up for remote production. This class will cover all the components that go into a DIT cart, including hardware, software, connectivity, and signal flow. You'll learn about each item on the cart and its function. Emphasis will be placed on how to connect to a camera through wired and wireless options, so that DITs can work safely and remotely on set. 

 

Class Details

The Advanced Digital Cinema series will be held on the Smashcut platform. This online learning environment, designed especially for media education, offers robust collaborative instruction with media sharing capabilities, contextual feedback on student work, and broadcast-quality asynchronous video lectures. Once students have registered for this course, they will be granted access to Smashcut where they can watch on-demand lessons and the live instruction.
