DJI Wireless Thumb Controller for Ronin

This DJI Wireless Thumb Controller for Ronin allows you to make changes quickly in the middle of your shot. You can control your Ronin 3-Axis Gimbal Stabilizer to change the settings, speed, and camera angle with the flick of your thumb on-the-fly.

That means you can clamp the Thumb Controller to your handle bar and keep both hands on the frame while shooting yet still modify your settings. You can also use a 2nd operator to adjust settings, speed, and direction while the primary camera operator focuses on the physical movement of your gimbal during the shot. The Wireless Thumb Controller operates at up to 200 feet from your Ronin Gimbal Stabilizer. This will expand your capture capabilities and allow for precision which was not possible previously.

The Thumb Controller looks a lot like a tiny remote with its pressure sensitive stick and directional arrows. A compact OLED display with an easy-to-use UI provides battery status and review of your setting changes. Not only are speed and direction available, along with camera setting control, you can also adjust where your camera faces and access both calibration and channel settings.

When you link your Thumb Controller to your Ronin gimbal you are ready to start shooting and making setting modifications. No additional tools are required to clamp your Thumb Controller on your handle bars or other location.

DJI created a separate DJI Wireless Thumb Controller for Ronin-M and Ronin-MX, since those do not require an external receiver.

OLED Display & User Interface

Using the bright OLED display on your Thumb Controller, you can view your current status, check battery levels, or make adjustments in settings. You can view and click through the intuitive menu options with the up/down/left/right arrows and center pressure sensitive stick under your thumb.

Included Wireless Receiver (Ronin Only)

Unlike the Ronin-M and Ronin-MX Thumb Controller, this wireless control device reqiures an external receiver, which is included for your convenience. The Ronin-M/MX contains a built-in receiver so it does not require additional parts to pair with your Thumb Controller.

Includes CAN ports to connect the receiver to your Ronin, plus a Bind Button to connect to the Thumb Controller and Ronin. An LED status indicator light provides status of your receiver.

Install the Receiver using the provided 4-pin cable to connect your CAN port on the Ronin to the CAN 1 or CAN 2 ports on the Receiver. Double-sided adhesive tape is provided to secure your Receiver in place on the body of your Ronin. If you prefer, you can purchase Velcro or hook & loop tape to secure the Receiver so it does not need to remain in place permanently. 

Just like your controller, the Wireless Receiver provides a microUSB port for upgrading firmware and recharging the built-in battery.

Attaching the Thumb Controller to your Ronin

Clamp your Quick Release Accessory Mount around the handlebar of your Ronin, then tighten the included screw to secure the clamp in place. You can position the Mount near your right or left handgrip, depending on your requirements. Remember to keep it close enough that your can comfortably modify settings with your thumb while still maintaining a firm grip on your handlebars.

Once the Quick Release Accessory Mount is installed you can clip in the Thumb Controller so it is secured.

NOTE: Although the item is included, you will not need the step-down adapter on your Ronin, only on your Ronin-M.

Battery Power & Future Upgrades

Operate your DJI Wireless Thumb Controller for up to 18 hours of runtime per battery charge. That should easily last for an entire shoot day, even your longest ones.

The Controller includes a built-in battery which can be recharged via a microUSB port on the underside of the unit. A protective port cover is included to keep out dust during usage. Use this port to download and apply duture software updates, in addition to recharging your battery.

NOTE: The GCU Firmware must be V1.0 or higher and the IMU Firmware must be V3.0 or higher for your Thumb Controller to function with your Ronin Gimbal. Be sure to upgrade to the latest Ronin Firmware before using the Thumb Controller.

Quick Calibration & Tuning

Perform Auto Tune Stability or even calibrate the gimbal without being tethered to your mobile device when you use the Thumb Controller. From the main menu, using the OLED display and pressure sensitive stick, select Cali System or Auto Tune under the Gimbal Menu Item.

You will need to Bind your Thumb Controller to your Receiver the first time, before you can use your Thumb Controller. 

You can also adjust various parameters in the DJI Assistant App. Among other things, this lets you select a controller to take priority so you can switch between your Thumb Controller and Remote Controller (which came with your Ronin).
