Overview
The 3-axis stabilization system on the DJI Osmo Handheld 4K camera provides a flat camera view regardless of your motion while holding the camera due to SmoothTrack technology. The integrated gimbal stabilization system cancels your movements and maintains smooth video capture. The handheld gimbal offers a secure grip handle, 6 hours of standby time, and 1 hour of video capture, plus the ability to record remotely with your smartphone.
The Osmo system includes both a detachable handle and the Zenmuse X3 gimbal camera.
Recording
The Osmo delivers 4K video at 24, 25, and 30 frames per second (fps). It captures photos at 12 megapixels in Adobe DNG RAW. It is also compatible with the Zenmuse X5 series of cameras which can expand your M4/3 sensor capturing capabilities.
The camera will tilt across a 170° range and features a pan rotation of 640°.
The Grip Handle
Use the joystick on the detachable handle to manipulate pan and tilt functions. You can also utilize the WiFi to tether your Osmo to your smartphone so you can use the phone as your on-board monitor. Control record start/stop or the shutter with your fingertips. A trigger helps you change modes.
The convenient DJI Rosette Mount on the side of the handle provides a mount point for your smartphone or compatible mobile device to add an on-board monitor or live viewfinder. You can also attach the Osmo to optional accessories such as a vehicle mount or tripod to capture a unique perspective.
Hold the handle in four modes to change how you capture footage:
Upright Mode – with the camera centered over the handle. Into selfies? The Osmo camera will point directly at you in Upright Mode when you tap the trigger three times.
Underslung Mode – Simply turn the handle upside down so the camera hangs beneath it. Capture the POV of your dog, a child, you name it. Want a selfie of your dog? Like Dorothy’s magic slippers, you only need to tap the trigger three times.
Flashlight Mode – Point the handle forward, parallel to the ground (or 90° from upright) to reach this Mode. With two taps on the trigger you can center the camera in this position. Want to pan left or right? Use the joystick.
Portrait Mode – From upright mode, rotate the Osmo 90° to the left or 90° to the right to shift to Portrait Mode.
Capture All Around You
Shoot 360° panorama mode by holding the Osmo overhead and tapping the shutter button. The camera will rotate to capture images and remain completely level. This enables you to capture the entire scene for later memory or review. Ideal for location scouts as well so the director can experience the full experience of a desired location. Record the passage of time with or without a tripod.
Due to the stabilization characteristics of this handheld camera you can freehand still captures every 2 seconds. Allows for capture of city skylines, sunsets, a blur of a subject’s moving background or any number of other applications. It even includes a UV filter for the lens.
DJI GO App
Be sure to download the DJI GO App so you can perform remote operations or view a live feed from your smartphone, tablet, or other compatible mobile devices. With this app you can control timelapse, an auto panoramic long exposure, or slow motion, among other things.
Additional Features
Mount the Osmo to a tripod, or other available mounts, then position yourself a few steps away to control the unit. This will help maintain position during timed exposures.
Utilize the included the flexi microphone to reduce fan noise. This places the mic farther away from the body of the camera. There is an existing built-in mic should you prefer using only that in louder ambient noise situations like concerts and live events where fan noise is not as noticeable.
The Osmo includes a library of images and movies so you can edit your work before sharing online. Simply register with a DJI account to upload and share your creations to Skypixel or shared on social media networks like Facebook, Twitter, etc.
All of DJI’s Smart Shooting modes can be controlled and triggered by remove using the DJI GO App on your smartphone. Be sure to upgrade your Osmo with the latest firmware. DJI states that it takes about 10 minutes to complete the update and you’ll need a microSD card inserted for the upgrade to start.
NOTE: This gimbal camera is not water resistant nor does it protect from dust and sand. Please keep that in mind when using it in inclement weather.
