Overview
The DJI Phantom 4 Quadcopter features an on-board camera, precision hovering, obstacle tracking with Tap to Fly, plus visual tracking to allow you to follow a subject. DJI added a sport mode and also extended the flight time of the Phantom 4. All this with a high-performance camera on a 3-axis gimbal which delivers video up to 4K at 30fps and Full HD 1080p at 120fps for slow motion capture.
Flight Modes include:
- Position Mode
- TapFly
- Active Track
- Intelligent Flight Mode
- Sport Mode
- Atti Mode
- Beginner Mode (not that YOU need this…)
Extended Flight Time
The Phantom 4 Quadcopter can now achieve a 28-minute flight time. That’s a 25% improvement over the Phantom 3. An advanced propulsion system and a larger battery with a streamlined body increased the Phantom 4 flight time.
The larger battery offers 5350 mAh of power. Pair the Phantom 4 with the optional Lightbridge units to see what the Phantom sees in 720p HD at up to 3.1 miles away (5 km), based on DJI’s range testing in unobstructed areas free of interference.
Precision Hovering
The Phantom 4 Vision Position System (VPS) allows braking instantly and the ability to hover when joystick controls are released. The system tracks the aerial device even when GPS is unavailable or you fly low to the ground. A new prop mount design allows the Phantom 4 to use a push-and-release propeller design. The twist and release or twist and lock mechanism provides for strength during hard turns.
Tap to Fly
Utilize DJI’s Tap to Fly which allows a double-tap to start flight. The Obstacle Sensing System helps sense potential obstructions to protect your copter. Of course, it also includes Smart Return home to bring the unit back.
Track a Subject
The ActiveTrack ability lets you track or follow a moving subject. Using Moving POI you can circle around a subject, even while they move. It also allows you to reframe your shot.
Sport Mode
A new Sport Mode, combined with the magnesium core body for agility, achieves the need for speed at a maximum of 45 mph (72 kph). DJI increased the maximum speed by 25%. Extended flight time lets you capture aerial footage for 25% longer than the Phantom 3.
The lightweight skeleton of the new core design lifts the center of gravity closer to the Phantom 4’s heart to improve balance. You should find it more agile and precise due to this modification.
Atti Mode
Holds the Phantom 4’s altitude stead and level. It switches off satellite position for smooth movements.
Beginner Mode
This mode adjusts the maximum height and distance so beginner flyers can practice and gain confidence by flying low and close. You can adjust the height and distance as pilot skills improve.
Elevated Features
The Phantom 4 is compatible with the DJI GO App (works with Phantom and Inspire series copters, plus the Osmo and others).
A Remote Control comes standard with the Phantom 4, yet it is anything but standard. You can customize the remote to suit your flying style: joystick sensitivity or dedicated buttons.
Verify the details of each past flight using the auto logs which the Phantom 4 creates.
Built-in redundancies like the dual compass modules and dual Inertial Measurement Units (IMUs) allow the Phantom 4 to check received data. DJI states that incorrect data can be isolated and ignored without affecting flight.
Customize your remote controller to match your pilot style. You can adjust stick control sensitivity and dedicated buttons.
