Overview
The PocketWizard Plus lll Transceiver is a feature-packed, easy-to-use solution for remote flash and camera triggering.
The Plus lll is an Auto-Sensing Transceiver, which means it will automatically switch between transmit and receive as needed. It is reverse-compatible with all PocketWizard radios so you can pair it with your existing gear.
Whether new to remote triggering of cameras and flashes or a top professional pushing gear to the limits, the Plus lll's offers reliability, simplicity, and performance.
Connect to almost any remote flash or camera with the proper sync cable. You will want (1) PocketWizard transceiver/receiver for each remote flash or camera. The manufacturer priovided a helpful Cable Finder tool, if what is provided in the kit (see What's in the Box) does not suit your camera and accessory configuration.
The PocketWizard Plus III Transceiver requires one other PocketWizard radio for wireless triggering.
Interface Features:
- Status LED
- Internal Antenna
- Backlit LCD
- Power/Mode Button
- Channel Up/Down Buttons
- Zone/Toggle Buttons (A, B, C, D)
- Test Button (Two Stage Trigger)
- Hot Shoe (at base) with Locking Ring
32 Channel Options
16 standard and 16 Quad-Zone Triggering channels, for a total of 32 options, are available. Switch between these channels quickly with a one-touch operation.
How it Works
Connect your Plus II to your camera via an accessory/hot shoe. This becomes your transmitting radio.
Connect a Plus III to each of your remote flashes using the appropriate sync cable (visit the Cable Finder tool). These become your receiving radios.
Your Plus III Transceiver must be on the same channel and zone as the other PocketWizard radios in your configuration for everything to work together. Once set to the same channel/zone, remote flashes will be synchronized with your camera. Depress the TEST button to trigger the connected flashes.
Use the channel Up/Down buttons to select the channel. The manufacturer provided a Quick Guide for your reference, if you need more help. There is information in there regarding Auto-Relay, among other helpful tips.
NOTE: If you are using a camera with no hot shoe, you can connect the transmitting Plus III's Flash/Camera Port to the camera's sync terminal instead.
User Interface
A backlit LCD provides you with an easy-to-use User Interface. On it you can select Channel or Zone, verify Battery Level status, view Half/Full Press Indicator, and view current Triggering Mode.
Modes of Operation
(6) modes of operation are provided to help you in a variety of situations:
- TxRx (default)
- Tx Only
- Rx Only
- HSR (High Speed Receive)
- LR (Long Range)
- RP (Repeater)
Zones
Select a Zone (A, B, C, D) using the Toggle buttons when under Channels 17-32. Zones can be used to trigger remote cameras or flashes ON/OFF from a transmitting PocketWizard radio. You can also share flashes with other photographers this way.
Quad-Zone Triggering is possible when working with other PocketWizard radios that support Quad-Zone Triggering Channels 17-32.
Power
The Plus III will operate reliably using almost any pair of ~1.5 volt AA (IED: LR6) batteries. Rechargeable batteries will work. You can also power the unit via USB with a compatible, optional AC Adapter or from most computers.
NOTE: Battery level display may not be as accurate in the use of rechargeable batteries. Please remember to remove batteries during storage.
Mounting & Connections
The Accessory Shoe on the bottom of your Plus III Transceiver offers a connection point to your DSLR-type camera or others with a compatible shoe mount point. Connect the Plus III Transceiver to your camera hot shoe and tighten the locking ring for a firm hold.
A single 1/4-20 mount point is located on the rear of the handheld unit to attach it to your camera or elsewhere with a compatible mount.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Manufacturer states that all equipment should be turned OFF when making connections. Otherwise unwanted triggering or erratic behavior may occur. Also, be sure to set all radios to the same channel.
Connections & Compatibility
Basic Compatibility:
The Plus III is a radio transceiver, capable of acting as a transmitter or receiver for triggering remote flashes and cameras. It requires at least one other PocketWizard radio for wireless triggering. It can be connected to almost any remote flash or camera with the proper cable.
Detailed compatibility:
Compatible for use with industry standard hot shoes, PC sync terminals, etc. Safe 3 volts sync voltage for modern digital camera systems.
Compatible with most flashes and triggering circuits. Can handle up to 300 volts. See our cables and adapters section for appropriate connecting cables.
2-Stage triggering works as expected for most modern cameras when using an ACC cable. A few exceptions are detailed below:
Plus III Operational Considerations:
1) Nikon Cameras with MC-DC2 ports do not provide half-press, or full press output through the MC-DC2 port. This means that any camera using an N-MCDC2-ACC cable won't be able to provide the "half press your remote camera from the camera in your hand" operation when using the shutter release button.
This affects the following cameras:
D90
D7000
D5100
D5000
D3100
NOTE: This does NOT impact half-press or full-press INPUT to the camera, as this works just fine with the N-MCDC2-ACC cable on a remote camera.
2) Nikon Camera's with a MC-DC1 port using an NM4-ACC cable does not provide "half-press" output, but it does provide "full-press" output. This affects the following cameras:
D70s
D80
3) Compatible with flashes up to 300 Volts.
