Overview

This kit includes the following items:

  • Canon EOS C300 Mk II with Zacuto Z-Finder Kit
  • Canon 17-120mm CINE-SERVO T2.95 Zoom Lens - EF Mount

The Canon EOS C300 Mk II with Zacuto Z-Finder Kit includes:

  • Canon EOS C300 Mk II Camera Body with Dual Pixel CMOS AF - EF Mount
  • Zacuto Z-C3002ER-V2 C300 Mark II EVF Recoil V2
  • Zacuto C300/500 Z-Finder with Mounting Kit

The improved Canon EOS C300 Mark II Digital Cinema Camera with EF lens mount features a dynamic range of 15 stops, CFast recording technology, 4K/2K/Full HD internal and external recording with 4K RAW output, plus a new 10-bit Canon Log 2 Gamma. Canon also improved the Dual Pixel CMOS Autofocus along with an innovative focus assist engineering. This camera was remodeled with user input to enhance the user experience of studio motion picture applications, broadcast, indie productions, sports, and many more.

The Sensor

The redesigned camera boasts an 8.85 Megapixel Canon Super 35mm 16:9 CMOS image sensor. It supports up to 4K DCI recording with a maximum resolution of 4096x2160 pixels. Data from the 4K sensor, working with its dual Canon DIGIC DV5 image processors, delivers Over-Sampling HD Processing for reduced-moiré 2K (DCI)/Full 1080-60p HD recording and Dual-Pixel CMOS Autofocus.

The dual DIGIC DV5 image processors also help to reduce visual noise and enable high-sensitivity shooting at a maximum speed of ISO 102,400 (+54dB) for sharp, clear image capture using only ambient lighting. The EOS C300 Mark II camera also incorporates a trio of XF-AVC H.264 codecs to enable in-camera 4K (DCI) recording to dual CFast card slots and 2K/Full HD recording to an SD card slot. For external recording and monitoring, twin 3G-SDI outputs capable of 4K RAW output are included on the rear of the camera body. You can choose among multiple recording modes, resolutions, and frame rates to meet your individual production needs.

Each pixel in this CMOS imaging sensor also maintains a wide pixel pitch to maximize the amount of light which falls on each photo site. This enhances the sensitivity while also minimizing noise. It also supports ISO speeds of up to 102,400 for low-light imaging. This sensor reduces data-readout time to about half of what it was in the original EOS C300 Camera, which results in a significant reduction in rolling-shutter artifacts.

Autofocus

The Autofocus now includes an expanded focusing area and Face Detection when used in combination with Canon EF lenses. Each pixel in the camera's CMOS sensor is configured with two photodiodes. Two independent image signals can be detected at each photosite. By implementing phase-difference AF, smooth focusing is accomplished using Canon EF lenses with much higher speed and accuracy than was possible with previous technologies.

Canon expanded the DAF focusing area to approximately 80% (vertically) x 80% (horizontally). You can move the focus area using the convenient 4-direction key to provide you with a more manual control over Autofocus operation. This only functions when the Guide Area is within the Dual Pixel CMOS AF Range.

Face Detection AF on Canon EF lenses will recognize a face, focus on it, then follow that face when it moves.

One innovative feature of the enhanced AF allows you to confirm if you are focused in front of or behind the subject through visual observation. In this manner, quick and accurate manual focus can be achieved.

Lenses

The C300 Mark II is compatible with the full range of 100 Canon EF and EF-S photographic lenses, including specialty tilt-shift and fisheye models, plus Canon CN-E Cinema prime and zoom lenses, including the ENG-style Canon CINE-SERVO zooms. New Dual-Pixel CMOS AF capabilities of the EOS C300 Mark II are enabled by the AF motors in Canon EF lenses. The improved EF lens communication capabilities of the EOS C300 Mark II camera allow for the display of CN-E Cinema lens T-values, lens metadata acquisition, and chromatic aberration correction on the camera's LCD Monitor/EVF/Output display.

Improvements

The Canon EOS C300 Mark II Digital Cinema Camera facilitates operation and creative freedoms, such as full manual control, an Ultra-High Resolution 1.77 Megapixel color OLED EVF with adjustable 60° tilting angle, a built in internal mono reference microphone, a removable hand grip, an improved camera handle extension with additional attachment points, plus both a removable LCD Monitor and a control panel with XLR inputs. The modular design of the EOS C300 Mark II camera accommodates many third-party accessories.

A new log gamma designated as Canon Log Gamma 2 was designed explicitly for the camera's 10-bit recording capabilities. The files produced using Log format are ideal for color correction and grading in post-production. Canon did this to produce a high level of creative freedom while minimizing degradation of image quality. When using Canon Log 2, the Cinema EOS C300 Mark II can provide a dynamic range up to 1600%.

Be sure to check out the images where a chart on Slow and Fast Motion recording has been provided for your reference.

Recording

The Canon EOS C300 Mark II employs CFast™ (CompactFast) 2.0 cards for in-camera 4K video recording. The camera features two CFast™ card slots. Each slot is protected by a convenient hinged cover. The camera also includes an SD card slot for HD and Proxy recording. The camera can simultaneously record 4K on two CFast™ (2.0) cards along with 2K proxy images on its SD card for off-line editing. Canon provided a chart to show the memory cards verified for the EOS C300 Mark II.

Ergonomics

This camera builds on the efficient ergonomic design of the original, while adding new advantages. Redesigned to maximize shooting comfort and the usability improvements asked for by users, the EOS C300 Mark II Digital Cinema Camera's modular design allows different components to be added or removed as needed to meet both the demands of a particular shooting environment and the comfort of the camera operator. In addition to the core body, the EOS C300 Mark II Digital Cinema Camera comes with a removable hand grip, improved low-angle camera handle extension with additional attachment points, and removable LCD monitor and control panel with XLR audio inputs.

Ultra-High Resolution OLED EVF

The EOS C300 Mark II Digital Cinema Camera features a 0.46 Inch 1.77 Megapixel color OLED EVF (Organic Light Emitting Diode Electronic ViewFinder). OLED technology increases the color reproducibility, contrast and response of the viewfinder, making camera operation and the judging of image characteristics seen in the viewfinder much easier. The EVF also offers 60º of tilt for more comfortable operation in a variety of positions.

Connectivity & Control

The C300 MK II arrives equipped with (2) 3G-SDI, a gunlock input, a timecode input/output, and an HDMI output. It also includes a remote terminal, a standard headphone jack, and both an audio and a video terminal to connect exclusively to a monitor.

The camera supports the Canon RC-V100 remote controller (sold separately) to enable adjustments to camera controls and image quality from a distance. It supports a variety of third-party LANC accessories.

You do not need a remote to achieve remove control though. Use a standard web browser on a WiFi capable device (your smart phone, laptop, tablet, etc.) to take dynamic control of your camera functionality. Canon added focus control functions. You can adjust – by touch – the focus area.

And if you prefer the manual life and wish to toss aside all this WiFi mumbo jumbo you can do that, too. The EOS C300 Mark II camera offers a fully manual yet still digital camera. You have full manual control of functions such as iris, shutter speed, gain, zoom, focus, and audio. You will also have access to Custom Picture Settings, Custom Functions, and Custom Display Options to tailor your camera to your precise needs.

Canon C300 MK II Firmware Update

Canon has updated their firmware on the Canon C300 MK II Camera. Please be sure to read the step-by-step instructions Canon has conveniently included with their C300 MK II Firmware Update.

Firmware Version 1.1.0.1.00 incorporates the following enhancements:

1.  Support for LCD monitor LM-V1 1,2 (separately sold) has been added.

2.  Peripheral illumination/chromatic aberration correction has been added for the following lenses:

  • EF-S 18-55mm f/4-5.6 IS STM
  • EF-S 35mm f/2.8 Macro IS STM
  • EF 85mm f/1.4L IS USM

NOTE 1: Your LA-V1 LCD Attachment Unit cannot be used to attach the LM-V1 to your EOS C300 MK II / EOS C300 Mark II PL cameras. 3rd party mounting options are required to use the monitor on this model camera.

NOTE 2: When using the LM-V1 with the separately-sold WFT-E6 or WFT-E8 Wireless File Transmitter and GP-E1 GPS Receiver, please be sure to maintain space between the two accessories.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Remember to read the Important Notes from Canon in their PDF when you download the firmware update. There are things you will want to know so you can perform the update correctly and maintain your working camera.

The Zacuto C300 Mark II EVF Recoil V2 shoulder rig is designed specifically for your Canon C300 Mark II Camera, providing optimal balance and comfort when shoulder mounted or on a tripod. In a shoulder mount rig, the balance point needs to be directly over your shoulder, which would ordinarily place the camera behind your head. The Recoil Pro V2 adjusts for that balance point and relocates focus, monitoring, and camera controls forward to create a lighter, shorter, and properly balanced rig.

Includes:

VCT Pro – Baseplate featuring a sliding top plate (for quickly dismounting the camera from the rig, or for fast lens changes), an integrated shoulder pad, and a v-wedge tripod connector (with 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 screw option). It includes removable and extendable 6.5" iris rods and rows of 1/4"-20 female threads along the sides for accessory attachment. The VCT Pro also has quick release 15mm rod components in the rear. The recessed front rod mount offers maximum space for accessories beneath your camera lens.

C300 Mark II Helmet Kit – Mounts directly to the top of the C300 Mark II in place of the Canon top handle. This kit offers multiple 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 female threads to attach a variety of accessories, as well as a mounting point for the C300 Mark II microphone. Includes the extremely stable Recoil Handle top grip, which features a quick release 15mm rod port and accepts (2) cold shoe accessories. A quick release design allows the user to easily remove the handle for storage or transport.

Zacuto 3" Z-Rail – Compatible with any Z-Rail accessories (e.g., Recoil Top Handle, any Z-rail mount, etc.). It is compatible with the RED EPIC/SCARLET, Canon C300/C500 (with Helmet), Blackmagic Design cameras, and others. The Z-Rail attaches via (2) 1/4"-20 screws (included) spaced 3/8" apart, center-to-center, at their closest, and 2-5/32" apart at their widest point. The 3" Z-Rail can be used on a second camera to quick release any Z-rail accessories between cameras. Zacuto dovetail accessories are adjustable for compatibility with Z-Rail, NATO, SWAT, RED, PICATINNY, and WOODEN CAMERA rails.

Zacuto Recoil Handle – Top handle, compatible with any Z-Rail. Includes (2) cold shoe mounts (vertical & horizontal) that secure wvia a quick-release clamp to the shoe mount of your accessory. Mount two cold shoe items at once with a half-turn of a Zacuto lever; avoid unnecessary winding of an annoying plastic tie-down wheel. At the opposite end of the handgrip, there is a 15mm quick release 15mm rod port. The Recoil Handle includes a 3/8"-16 female thread mount and (2) 1/4"-20 femal thread mounts. The top handle itself is made from fine, hand-tooled, 3/4 maple.

Zacuto Zgrip Relocator – Control grip relocator for the Canon C100/300/500* with Zacuto's standard Zgrip Z-Mount Zwivel. The Zgrip Relocator is fully articulating and includes a black 4.5" rod with rod cap and a Z-Mount Zwivel 2 to attach to any 15mm rod. The Zwivel 2 allows you to change the angle between the two 15mm rods at set points, turning 365° using a pin locking mechanism. The Zwivel 2 features two levers which control each 15mm port. In order to change the angle of the rods, simply loosen either of the levers and the internal spring separates the parts to adjust to the desired angle. The handgrip fully articulates at a ball joint via the red quick release lever.

Your Canon C100/300 removable grip attaches directly to the Relocator handle and Zacuto's proprietary control cable connects to the port on your camera. Once it is connected, users enjoy trigger or on/off control, lens aperture control, and a programmable user button that can be set to a number of camera functions, including Waveform, 1:1 Zoom, Zebra, "My Menu", et al. Cable length: 24" (60.96cm).

*NOTE: The removable grip for the Cinema EOS C500 Camera must be purchased separately.

The Zacuto C300/500 Z-Finder with Mounting Kit is an optical viewfinder, specifically designed to attach to the Canon C300, C300 Mark II, and C500 cinema camera’s LCD screen. This Z-Finder will magnify the LCD screen by 1.8x and has a diopter wheel for specific focus tuning. It cuts out any extraneous light and offers an initial point of stability by pressing your eye against the large eyecup.

The Z-Finder includes 4 interchangeable anti-fog glass diopters, 0, +1, +2, and +3 so you can correct it to your vision right out of the box and then fine tune it with our red adjust wheel for perfect clarity. -1 and +4 diopters are available for purchase separately. An aluminum sun mask is built in to the Z-Finder to protect your LCD screen from sunlight.

The C300/C500 Z-Finder attaches by using a foam padded sleeve that slides over the LCD screen of the C300, C300 Mark II, or C500. The sleeve is secured into place with a bar clamp. It also includes a unique monitor lock clip to keep the LCD screen from moving forward when the Z-Finder is pressed against your eye.

The Mounting Kit for the C300/C500 Z-Finder allows you to position the LCD screen forward and off the the side in a position to better enable shoulder mounted shooting. The Mounting Kit attaches to a Z-Rail mount and will allow forward/backward, side to side, and tilt adjustment of the Z-Finder.

NOTE: This mounting kit works with the C300/C500 Helmet and handle as a unified system. The C300/C500 Helmet Kit is required to use this kit (for the C300 Mk. II, the C300 Mark II Helmet Kit is required).

When moving the LCD this far forward, you may need to purchase the Canon Extension cable, sold by Canon.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The C300/C500 Z-Finder with Mounting Kit is only compatible with the Canon C300, C300 Mark II, and C500 cameras. It is not compatible with any other camera or set up.
