CANON C300 MK II CAMERA
The improved Canon EOS C300 Mark II Digital Cinema Camera with EF lens mount features a dynamic range of 15 stops, CFast recording technology, 4K/2K/Full HD internal and external recording with 4K RAW output, plus a new 10-bit Canon Log 2 Gamma. Canon also improved the Dual Pixel CMOS Autofocus along with an innovative focus assist engineering. This camera was remodeled with user input to enhance the user experience of studio motion picture applications, broadcast, indie productions, sports, and many more.
The Sensor
The redesigned camera boasts an 8.85 Megapixel Canon Super 35mm 16:9 CMOS image sensor. It supports up to 4K DCI recording with a maximum resolution of 4096x2160 pixels. Data from the 4K sensor, working with its dual Canon DIGIC DV5 image processors, delivers Over-Sampling HD Processing for reduced-moiré 2K (DCI)/Full 1080-60p HD recording and Dual-Pixel CMOS Autofocus.
The dual DIGIC DV5 image processors also help to reduce visual noise and enable high-sensitivity shooting at a maximum speed of ISO 102,400 (+54dB) for sharp, clear image capture using only ambient lighting. The EOS C300 Mark II camera also incorporates a trio of XF-AVC H.264 codecs to enable in-camera 4K (DCI) recording to dual CFast card slots and 2K/Full HD recording to an SD card slot. For external recording and monitoring, twin 3G-SDI outputs capable of 4K RAW output are included on the rear of the camera body. You can choose among multiple recording modes, resolutions, and frame rates to meet your individual production needs.
Each pixel in this CMOS imaging sensor also maintains a wide pixel pitch to maximize the amount of light which falls on each photo site. This enhances the sensitivity while also minimizing noise. It also supports ISO speeds of up to 102,400 for low-light imaging. This sensor reduces data-readout time to about half of what it was in the original EOS C300 Camera, which results in a significant reduction in rolling-shutter artifacts.
Autofocus
The Autofocus now includes an expanded focusing area and Face Detection when used in combination with Canon EF lenses. Each pixel in the camera's CMOS sensor is configured with two photodiodes. Two independent image signals can be detected at each photosite. By implementing phase-difference AF, smooth focusing is accomplished using Canon EF lenses with much higher speed and accuracy than was possible with previous technologies.
Canon expanded the DAF focusing area to approximately 80% (vertically) x 80% (horizontally). You can move the focus area using the convenient 4-direction key to provide you with a more manual control over Autofocus operation. This only functions when the Guide Area is within the Dual Pixel CMOS AF Range.
Face Detection AF on Canon EF lenses will recognize a face, focus on it, then follow that face when it moves.
One innovative feature of the enhanced AF allows you to confirm if you are focused in front of or behind the subject through visual observation. In this manner, quick and accurate manual focus can be achieved.
Lenses
The C30 Mark II is compatible with the full range of 100 Canon EF and EF-S photographic lenses, including specialty tilt-shift and fisheye models, plus Canon CN-E Cinema prime and zoom lenses, including the ENG-style Canon CINE-SERVO zooms. New Dual-Pixel CMOS AF capabilities of the EOS C300 Mark II are enabled by the AF motors in Canon EF lenses. The improved EF lens communication capabilities of the EOS C300 Mark II camera allow for the display of CN-E Cinema lens T-values, lens metadata acquisition, and chromatic aberration correction on the camera’s LCD Monitor/EVF/Output display.
Improvements
The Canon EOS C300 Mark II Digital Cinema Camera facilitates operation and creative freedoms, such as full manual control, an Ultra-High Resolution 1.77 Megapixel color OLED EVF with adjustable 60° tilting angle, a built in internal mono reference microphone, a removable hand grip, an improved camera handle extension with additional attachment points, plus both a removable LCD Monitor and a control panel with XLR inputs. The modular design of the EOS C300 Mark II camera accommodates many third-party accessories.
A new log gamma designated as Canon Log Gamma 2 was designed explicitly for the camera's 10-bit recording capabilities. The files produced using Log format are ideal for color correction and grading in post-production. Canon did this to produce a high level of creative freedom while minimizing degradation of image quality. When using Canon Log 2, the Cinema EOS C300 Mark II can provide a dynamic range up to 1600%.

The DP-V1710 fits inside 19" racks making it an excellent choice for broadcast vans that are subject to space and weight restrictions.
HDR-Compatible Waveform Monitor Display
The waveform monitor can be selected to display HDR scales (e.g. SMPTE ST 2084 nit) or Canon Log (%) for maximum flexibility in HDR production.
HDR Range Variable Adjustment Function
Variable adjustment of the HDR range is possible to suit specific applications. For example, the dynamic range of the HDR standard signal or LOG signal can be displayed to fit within the luminance supported by the display main unit (range compression), or required actual luminance parts of the range can be displayed with the highlight range area excluded (range upper limit clipping). Desired values can also be registered in advance to function buttons or channel buttons. This lets you call up respective HDR standard videos for confirmation by one-touch operation.
HDR Meta Information Display
Metadata information (color gamut, gamma, maximum luminance, average luminance maximum value of content) from PCs for HDMI-compatible video editing and Blu-ray players, cameras and other devices can be displayed on screen.
This is useful for appropriate HDR productions since videos can be monitored while confirming the HDR information at the same time.
Superb Black Levels
The DP-V1710 UHD 4K Reference Display provides a black level superior to older CRT displays. What's more, by ensuring accurate gradation precision afforded by liquid crystal displays, a higher black reproduction can be achieved compared with that of CRT displays and OLEDs, on which black defects are likely to occur in the shadow areas, thus helping to improve video production quality.
Integrate with ARRI Camera Systems
The DP-V1710 UHD 4K Reference Display has important features for cinema style applications as well.
Camera Link-Up
The Camera Link-Up feature of the reference display allows seamless linking to the ARRI ALEXA SXT camera system, providing for increased flexibility on-set for camera assistants and DITs.
Camera Information Displays
When an ARRI Camera system is connected to the DP-V1710, the camera's metadata can be obtained, and its contents can be displayed. This means that camera set up and confidence checks during shooting can all be done on the reference display itself rather than on the camera's viewfinder or display. This allows checks without disturbing the operator and increases on set flexibility. (This feature is available when the 3G/HD-SDI format has been selected by ARRI Camera system.)
Camera Image Quality Link-up
An image quality link-up function automatically switches the image quality of the display based on the camera's meta information. This function is established while the ARRI Camera system is connected to the DP-V1710. The fact that the image quality settings are linked automatically for the camera and for the display means that setting errors can be minimized.
Pre-Set Log
Presetting by Cinema EOS System's Canon Log/Canon Log2/Canon Log3 and the ARRI Log C video display are also supported. Log C is preset to the main unit menu. So, all you have to do to check image quality is connect to the camera without having to go through the trouble of adding on any special LUTs.
On-Set LUT and CDL Functions
The DP-V1710 UHD 4K Reference Display allows you to set multiple LUTs (8) for each picture mode, same as the DP-V2410 and DP-V2420.
As a result, users can select up to eight LUTs in one picture mode for improved convenience. In addition, presets from CDL1 to CDL15 and a CDL details setting screen have been added. Users can also change the name settings for CDL1 to CDL15.
Faithful Color Reproduction Supporting 4K Cinema and UHD 4K Broadcast Standards
Broadcast and Cinema Standards of ITU-R BT.2020 and ACES2065-1 Supported.
The display has a Direct-type white LED backlight and IPS liquid crystal panel in order to achieve the high-image-quality performance that is optimally suited for the shooting locations. In addition to satisfying a multiple number of the latest broadcast standards such as ITU-R BT.709, EBU and SMPTE-C as well as the latest DCI-P3 digital cinema standard, it also meets the next-generation standards of ITU-R BT.2020 and ACESproxy, the transmission standards of ACES whose color management standard is advocated by AMPAS.
High Accuracy Uniformity
The DP-V1710 UHD 4K Reference Display achieves the same level of high-accuracy uniformity as the DP-V3010, DP-V2410 and DP-V2420 reference displays. By incorporating a proprietary image processor developed for use in displays to enable fine-tuned adjustments, any color and luminance unevenness on the screen can be prevented and high-accuracy uniformity can be achieved.
Smooth and Accurate Gradation Characteristics for each RGB Color
The high-accuracy display processor enables accurate gradation displays.
Image Enhancement Function
The DP-V1710 UHD 4K Reference Display has an array of image functions that give users the ability to control and modify the display's features and customize the overall look.
High Resolution
The DP-V1710 features a panel with a 3840 x 2160 resolution and a 16:9 aspect ratio. It can display signals compliant with the digital cinema and high-definition TV broadcast standards on a dot-by-dot basis in exhaustive detail. It makes its three expanded display modes available for 2K or full-HD video productions as well. In this way, it can be used as a FHD/2K/4K display in a wide range of applications, and it contributes to improving the efficiency of 4K/full-HD video production workflows.
Shape Trace
The DP-V1710 is equipped with three types of screen scaling functions, including the Canon Shape Tracing technology™ an original shape-tracing technology that helps to minimize artifacts on images scaled on the DP-V1710. Using the Canon Shape Tracing technology, the DP-V1710 detects the angles of hard edges and selects an appropriate interpolation to help provide smooth diagonal lines and optimal image rendering, further extending the display's application during location/studio shoots and within color-grading, DI, CGI, VFX and other post-production workflows.
Shooting Assistance Tools
2-Sample Interleave
2-Sample Interleave is supported. This technology transmits up to four sub-imagers (2K/HD) that are obtained by dividing a 4K signal into 2-pixel units and re-assembling these together to make a 4K display. This also differs from Square Division in that, since images that are slightly out of position are sent, the angle of view can be confirmed even on 2K/HD monitors by displaying one of four inputs.
2/4 Split Screen Display Compatibility
In the 2 split-screen display mode, the picture mode can be set independently on displays A and B. And, in the 2 split-screen display/4 split screen display mode, display of the division lines can be switched on and off. The camera information can be displayed at only one location (i.e. one input).
Maintaining Consistency in Color Image Quality
In order to maintain consistent high image quality the DP-V1710 UHD 4K Reference Display utilizes built-in auto-correct functions that consistently monitor color, brightness, and other parameters that keep the display at a high level of uniformity at all times. These functions include:
Automatic Luminance Correction System
The DP-V1710 comes with Canon's proprietary control system that is used to correct the fluctuations in luminance and help ensure accurate, stable performance over time.
Calibration Without a PC
The DP-V1710 achieves the same high level of stability as the DP-V3010/DP-V2410.
In cases where color shifting or other problems have occurred due to the deterioration experienced over the years, accurate corrections can be made using the external sensor (CA-210/CA-310 from Konica Minolta) without having to use a PC.
Precise Color Adjustment Prior to Shipment
In order to achieve high color uniformity, each DP-V1710 undergoes a high-precision calibration process before shipping from the factory. External calibration allows users to maintain factory settings as well as make adjustments for specific display applications.
Easy-to-Use Tailored OSD Menus
While carrying over the proven operability of the DP-V2410 UHD 4K Reference Display, Canon has reduced the size of the OSD menu displays to the size that is optimally suited for the operation range. The information is easy to read yet does not really obstruct the display of the images on the screen.
Assignable Function Buttons
Specific functions can be registered to the function buttons in accordance with the intended applications. These functions can then be accessed immediately at the touch of a button.
Easy-to-Use Control Area
The control area with its function buttons factors in different scenarios for shooting at many different locations, and it is extremely easy to use. The buttons and jog dial are laid out in the same positions as they are on the DP-V2410 display. The labels and buttons on the front panel control area are illuminated to enable operation even in dark places.
If operations are to be performed at a location away from the main unit, users can connect the color grading system using the LAN connector or connect a color grading controller using the USB connector.
