Overview

The RED RANGER GEMINI 5K S35 All-In-One Camera System features a compact, standardized camera body weighing approximately 7.5 lb (3.4 kg), depending on the chosen battery plate. RANGER is an integrated (i.e., not modular) camera system with a comprehensive I/O array. It is capable of handling the rigorous strain and robust power needs of high-end studio productions, supporting wide input voltage (11.5V to 32V) and more independent SDI and AUX power outputs, as well as an integrated XLR audio input.  The camera also boasts a larger fan for quieter, more efficient temperature management. 

The RANGER features all of the benefits of the DSMC2 sensor lineup in a less complex platform for filmmakers. Features like integrated I/O's, 24V power output, a factory-shimmed PL Mount, and improved thermal performance offer unmatched versatility as well as peace of mind in challenging shooting environments. 

Due to its 2 stops sensitivity over the HELIUM sensor, the GEMINI is now even more capable of capturing what you see in low-light scenarios. This sensor falls in size between the MONSTRO and the HELIUM (30.72 x 18mm; 35.61mm diagonal). GEMINI captures 5K RED RAW @ 96fps and includes what RED calls "big pixels". RED named the GEMINI after the Gemini Spacecraft which orbited the Earth in the mid-1960s for initial spaceflight leading up to their moon landing with the Apollo missions (the first manned missions to reach escape velocity and also walk on the moon).

The biggest difference between the RANGER and the rest of the DSMC2 line is that none of the current expander modules are compatible with the RANGER. Whereas previous REDs were built for complete modularity, taking a camera BRAIN and custom-building the configuration with expansion modules to meet the user's exact needs, this camera is designed for a single-purpose. The task-specific modules needed to make the RANGER a high-end studio camera are built-into it, and the camera is fully functional on its own without additional upgrades.

IMPORTANT NOTE: One other significant difference is the PL Lens Mount on the RANGER. Other DSMC2 camera BRAINs use internal back-focus adjustment  for changing between mount types. The RANGER features more precise internal shimming that is designed specifically for, and only compatible with, PL Mount lenses.
