Overview

Overview

Carrying over all the features and capabilities of the EOS 5DS, the Canon EOS 5DS R Camera Body offers the potential for even greater sharpness and fine detail for specialized shooting applications. It features the same Canon-designed and manufactured 50.6 Megapixel sensor, with canceled Low Pass Filter* (LPF) effect to provide even more fine edge sharpness and detail for critical subjects like detailed landscapes, and other conditions where capturing the sharpest subject detail is a priority.

50.6 Megapixel Full-Frame CMOS Sensor

The EOS 5DS R DSLR camera's full-frame 50.6 Megapixel CMOS sensor captures 8712 x 5813 effective pixels, delivering images with wide dynamic range and an incredible level of realism perfect for large-scale printing, fine art, significant crops, and many other high-end applications. A new Picture Style setting (Fine Detail) helps emphasize fine edges, patterns, and textures. Thanks to dual DIGIC 6 image processors, photographs and HD movies are captured and processed with remarkable speed.

*Low-Pass Filter Cancellation

While the LPF's purpose is to minimize the moiré and false color artifacting inherent in digital imaging, it does typically reduce resolving power of the sensor. The EOS 5DS R camera's LPF cancellation effect delivers greater sharpness and finer detail, useful in specialized situations, however the possibility of moiré and color artifacting is increased. Fortunately, there are methods to help eliminate these effects while capturing and during post-processing.

EOS Scene Detection System with RGB+IR Metering Sensor

The EOS 5DS R camera has an amazing iSA Intelligent Subject Analysis system that employs an independent RGB light sensor with approximately 150,000 pixel resolution. This sensor enables Canon's Intelligent Tracking and Recognition system (iTR AF) that detects and tracks subjects, automatically switching the AF point to optimize tracking. With new tracking algorithms tailored to recognize faces and colors, this system serves as a brilliant foundation for the EOS 5DS R's autofocus system.

61-point High Density Reticular AF

For fast, precise AF with sophisticated tracking performance, the EOS 5DS R camera has an advanced, 61-point High Density Reticular AF system with 41 cross-type AF points. The EOS 5DS R's AF system is incredibly sensitive to changes in composition, making adjustments quickly to help ensure consistent, sharp autofocus.

A new RGB+IR AE (with approximately 150,000 dots) sensor monitors subject motion, and Canon's iTR Intelligent Tracking and Recognition system synchronizes the active AE point with the subject's motion, helping to ensure AF precision is maintained. With focus modes dedicated to the particulars of the shooting environment, the EOS 5DS R realizes a level of focus accuracy befitting its 50.6 Megapixel sensor.

Compatible with Optional W-E1 Wi-Fi Adapter Accessory

The EOS 5DS R camera is compatible with the new optional W-E1 Wi-Fi Adapter1 accessory (sold separately), which enables Wi-Fi® capabilities2, including easy transfer of images to a compatible smartphone or tablet3, and remote still shooting. When inserted into the camera's SD card slot, the W-E1 enables you to wirelessly view and transfer images when connected to a compatible smart device with the Camera Connect mobile app3 installed, along with remote shooting for stills and the ability to remotely change camera settings. These Wi-Fi® functions can also be utilized when wirelessly connected to a computer equipped with the EOS Utility software.

1 The Wi-Fi Adapter W-E1 must be inserted into the available SD card slot; the W-E1 does not have storage and is not designed to record images (to record and store images, a CompactFlash card must be used in the dedicated CF card slot).

2 EOS 7D Mark II, EOS 5DS, and EOS 5DS R cameras that have already been purchased separately require a firmware update to utilize the Wi-Fi Adapter W-E1.

3 Compatible with iOS® versions 8.0/8.1/8.2/8.3/8.4/9.0/9.1/9.2/9.3, Android™ smartphone and tablet versions 4.1/4.2/4.3/4.4/5.0/5.1/6.0.
