Overview

The ATOMOS Sumo19 HDR 19" Monitor/Recorder provides HDR on set, in studio, or for live switching. The Sumo19 comes complete with mission critical scopes such as waveform, focus peaking, false color, and vectorscope on the calibrated screen. You can also record up to 4Kp60 and 2Kp240 to generate instant dailies and proxies direct to affordable SSD media. The Sumo offers 10 stops of dynamic range, 10-bit processing and X-Rite calibration it will display HDR and accept Log, PQ or HLG signals from your grading software. It also includes a converter and support for Genlock, plus LTC timecode.

Choose to view both Log and standard gamma images with or without LUTs applied. You can toggle between different looks with ease. Plus, you can upload your own LUTs as .cube files.

Be sure to download the Firmware V9.0 update, which supports ProRes RAW capture and playback on select cameras. This update enables the user to capture RAW footage at up to 12-bit RGB on SSD media. ProRes RAW files can be ingested directly into Final Cut Pro 10.4.1.

Sumo's 19" 1920x1080 10-bit LCD panel is driven by the AtomHDR engine which maps the Log/PQ/HLG from popular cameras, game consoles, or TVs to resolve 10+ stops of HDR in real time. The brightness range and vivid colors of HDR bring scenes to life either on the monitor itself, or when ouput to a larger HDR/Rec709 display for on set review. It can also be used with popular NLE or grading suites for affordable HDR or SDR editing or even color grading in the the studio.

This high bright 1200nit monitor and sturdy built-in armor with aluminum alloy chassis features a variety of mounting options and continuous power, plus the ability to record, grants this field monitor a go-anywhere, do-it-all necessity.

On Set

For the first time your production monitors on set can be HDR capable and have recording capability. This dual use monitor can not only provide a high-quality preview of your footage on set, but it can also record dailies, proxies or 4Kp60 masters. With playback controls available, you can tuck this monitor/recorder in the green room for your clients.

In the Studio

Use the ATOMOS Sumo19 as a 19" HDR grading monitor in your studio. Simply connect the Sumo with your grading software to transfer Log, PQ, or HLG signals from your Mac/PC. Delivers color-accurate HDR in 10-bit with 10 stops of dynamic range.

Built for Production

The ATOMOS Sumo19 features an aluminum alloy chassis with built-in armor for rugged construction. Configure this 19" monitor/recorder exactly where and how you need with its variety of mounting configurations. The armor houses (10) mounting points on the top, bottom, side, plus a rear panel VESA mount and an included stand. 

It includes XLR connections for power and balanced audio, plus a 3.5mm stereo headphone jack and built-in speakers. Use optional mounting plates to connect dual V-Lock or Anton Bauer batteries to work in tandem with the ATOMOS patent pending continuous power system. The system allows hot swap of batteries so you are never without power while on location or set.

The high-end Sumo monitor includes optional calibration to compensate for the natural color and brightness drift that monitors exhibit over time. Sumo's calibration input lets you use X-Rite's i1DisplayPro to always ensure accurate HDR and Rec709 monitoring.

Inputs / Outputs

Seamlessly connect any SDI or HDMI device and convert between HDMI 2.0 and SDI (3G QuadLink/6G/12G) in any combination. Quad SDI inputs connect cameras with multiple 1.5 or 3G-SDI outputs without the need for additional converters. Sumo can do this for you. HDMI 2.0 supports of up to 4Kp60 input/output along with the very latest ATOMOS open protocol which supports HDR automation, including import of camera settings. It also supports Genlock and LTC timecode.

Professional Recording

Capture the RAW output from Sony FS5/FS7/FS700, Canon C300 Mark II/C500, or the Panasonic Varicam LT over SDI up to 12-bit 4Kp60 as CDNG or 10-bit Apple ProRes/Avid DNxHR up to 4Kp60 / 2Kp240, depending on each camera's capabilities. The processing power of Sumo preserves pristine quality direct form the camera sensor with data rates of up to 3.2 Gbps.

Live Switch & Record

Live Switch and record up to (4) 1080/60p channels. Also provides 4x ISO record and playback. You can switch and mix a live recording and stream or record 4x HD ISO recordings using the QuadLink SDI connections. Switch between feeds on screen with cueing, cross fade, and hard cuts from the locked sources or you can tag and adjust final edits with advanced metadata tagging to preserve ISO feeds.

XLR Monitor & Record

Eliminate the need for a separate audio recorder by uisng the full XLR ports to connect and power external microphones for balanced analogue audio with dedicated meters and adjustments for frame delay and gain. 48V phantom mics or line level audio are all seamlessly synchronized for an advanced audio feature set. There is also a 3.5mm stereo headphone jack and built-in speakers for on set instant immersive review or complete internal recording review with clients or production team members.

Daylight Visible LCD

This 1200nit 19" calibrated 1920x1080 LCD monitor is extremely bright, even when outside in full sun. An optional hood is available as an accessory. 

A simple tap on the screen, due to the simplicity of AtomOS, produces the ability to use special features such as focus peaking, 2:1 / 1:1 zoom, zebra, false color, frame guides, SMPTE Safe Area, waveform, RGB parade, vectorscope, anamorphic desqueeze, and a flexible 3D LUT implementation to upload your own LUTs as .cube files.

Continuous Power

The optional mounting plates (sold separately) connect dual V-Lock or Anton Bauer batteries which work in tandem with our patent pending continuous power system. Sumo automatically swaps to the second battery when power is low in the first. That way you can hot swap the low battery with a charged one to maintain power in the field.

Media Solutions to Suit Your Workflow

Sumo records using ATOMOS' patented Master Caddy system. High capacity and widely available 2.5" SSDs provide an affordable solution for long recording times. ATOMOS has tested and approved over 20 drives for Sumo which slot into the provided Master Caddy or use the custom ATOMOS caddy from G-Technology (sold separately) to integrate directly into their EV series of Raid and desktop solutions for workflow efficiency.

Firmware Updates

Download the Firmware V9.12 update, which includes:

  • Quad ISO Recording
    • Access from the Input menu – select “4xISO” under SDI MULTI LINK
    • Supported formats: 1080p23.98/24/25/29.97/50/59.94, 1080i50/59.94
    • All signals must be the same format and synced to a reference signal
    • Only channel 1/2 of the embedded audio for each stream plus analog input will be recorded and monitored
    • SDI input 1 is the master reference for timecode and trigger
    • All ISO recordings will have the same timecode
  • Switched Output
    • In ISO Record mode, the Output SDI connection is a Switched output based on the Input selection in the Home Screen and in the Quad View mode
    • This Switched output can be used as a program output and recorded on an External Atomos Recorder/Monitor, or used a Switched streaming source
  • Panasonic EVA1 5.7k RAW frame rates supported: 23.98/24/25/29.97/30
    • Recording is supported for ProRes RAW only
  • Automatic HDR configuration in playback
    • When playing a movie recorded with AtomHDR monitoring enabled, all HDR settings will be automatically restored to match the settings when recording was started
    • Select the "Auto HDR" button to enable this feature
    • Bug Fixes: Missing meta data from some lenses caused recording failures
  • Monitor mode
    • "Mon" button will display a 4-way split view when 4xISO input mode is enabled
    • "Mon" button will display a monitoring interface for quick access to monitor features for all other video modes
    • Use the home button to return to record view
