AbelCine x ASC Present: An Evening with the Sony VENICE 2

Join us in NYC on December 13 for a special event featuring guest speakers Claudio Miranda, ASC, along with Roert McLachlan, ASC, CSC, DIT Tim Nagasawa, and underwater DP Braden Haggerty!

Save the date and join us, in association with the ASC, on Monday, December 13 for a special event highlighting the recently-announced Sony VENICE 2 digital cinema camera. This evening event will feature guest speakers Claudio Miranda, ASC, Robert McLachlan, ASC, CSC, DIT Tim Nagasawa, and underwater cinematographer Braden Haggerty, who will discuss their experiences with the camera and screen the short films they worked on in preparation for the launch. The panel discussion will be moderated by David Williams (American Cinematographer) and there will be plenty of time for audience Q&A. Guests will also get the chance to go hands-on with the camera bodies on our showroom stage.

Robert McLachlan, ASC, CSC, is well known for his work on shows such as Westworld, Ray Donovan, Game of Thrones, (for which he received two Emmy nominations), Lovecraft Country, and the upcoming The Shining Girls, the latter two shot on VENICE. In preparation for the VENICE 2 launch, McLachlan created Homecoming, a short film shot on location in Palm Springs and Los Angeles, California, and in Southwestern, B.C., Canada. In his short film Homecoming, Robert filmed with the VENICE 2 over ten days and shot in two countries. He used nearly every kind of camera conveyance possible from handheld, tripod, Steadicam, drone, underwater and helicopter shots.

Claudio Miranda is a Chilean cinematographer best known as the Academy Award-winning director of photography on Ang Lee's film Life of Pi and as the director of photography on David Fincher's film The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. His other notable work also includes: Top Gun: Maverick, Only the Brave, Oblivion, Tron: Legacy, and Tomorrowland among others. For his work on Life of Pi, Claudio received multiple awards, including the Academy Award for Best Cinematography and the BAFTA for Best Cinematography.

In his short film The Camera Test, Claudio tests the original VENICE and the VENICE 2 8.6K to learn the strengths of each camera and showcase how the cameras can work together on a film. He took inspiration from his 2017 film The Dig, and tested the cameras on location using anamorphic lenses.
