***PLEASE NOTE: This virtual training session will take place in the PACIFIC TIME ZONE.***

Join us for Understanding Scopes, live from the comfort of your home, on the road, or anywhere. In this interactive session, which covers the same topics as our in-person Understanding Scopes class, you will see the instructor and be able to ask questions.

This class takes place on the Zoom video conference platform, which is free to join and easy to use. Instructions will be sent to you before the class begins. Once the class starts, you will see the instructor, the gear being used, and the instructor's presentation. You will be able to ask questions via a live, moderated chat. After the class ends, you will also receive a copy of the instructor's PowerPoint or Keynote presentation, and a recording of the class.

Understanding Scopes covers the proper use of waveforms, vectorscopes, and other exposure measuring tools on set. You will learn the technical and practical knowledge of how these tools are used, as well as the science behind the measurements. This class also demonstrates the use of many other exposure tools used by modern digital cinematographers, including false color, zebra lines, and histograms.

Most modern digital cinema cameras and monitors offer various scopes as overlay tools. These allow the user to quickly judge exposure based on the sensor's readout or the video signal, and make adjustments as needed with immediate feedback. To use these tools properly, the science behind their function should be understood, and the strengths of each known so you can choose which tool to use.
