Tiffen 4 x 5.65 Mattebox Multi Rota Pola Tray - Variable Neutral Density

The Tiffen 4 x 5.65 Mattebox Multi Rota Pola Tray - Variable Neutral Density is ideal for matteboxes without a rotating filter stage or for those instances where a secondary rotating filter stage is required in a non-rotating stage. The Tiffen Multi Rota Pola Tray is designed to fit into a variety of matteboxes which conform to ARRI R2 design standards.

The Tiffen MRT features three modes of operation in one filter tray: a rotating polarizer, variable ND (integrated with polarizer function, rotate gear to adjust ND value), and Warm/Cool FX filter effect. To achieve these different functions, add or remove the horizontal ND and/or simply reverse the tray in the mattebox filter stage (see detailed usage notes below). The MRT also has a unique ability to control contrast in Warm/Cool configuration when the camera is set to shoot in monochrome/B&W mode.

Usage Notes:

• To use the MRT as a Rotating Circular Polarizer ONLY:
  • Face the filter tray "A-SIDE" towards the lens.
  • Do not add the additional 4 x 5.65 Circular Polarizer.
• To use the MRT as a Variable Neutral Density (VND) Filter:
  • Place the 4 x 5.65 filter into the (MRT) tray so that the engraving "FOR VND USE. THIS SIDE MUST FACE THE LENS" is readable.
  • Place the MRT into the mattebox/sun shade. The MRT will now function as a VND in this configuration.
  • You can now rotate the geared wheel to review.
  • Please use the Alpha markings on the gear ring and the engraved "+/-" on the "A-FACE" of the tray as a guide to increase or decrease the effect.
  • Please be advised that the amount of light reduction the MRT can cut is focal length dependent when configured as a VND filter.
  • Always check edge of frame for vignetting and, in extreme cases, for a dark cross in the center of your frame.
  • The best way to look for possible vignetting and uneven transmission in your image is to use a waveform monitor and a solid grey card; evenly illuminate the grey card making sure the card covers the entire image area of the lens.
  • Any uneven variance in light transmission will be visible on the monitor as you rotate the gear.
• To use as a Warm/Cool FX Filter:
  • Place the 4 x 5.65 filter into the (MRT) tray so that the engraving "FOR WARM / COOL USE. THIS SIDE MUST FACE THE LENS" is readable.
  • Place the MRT into the mattebox/sunshade.
  • The MRT will now work as a WARM / COOL FX Filter in this configuration.
  • You can now rotate the geared wheel to review.
  • Please use the Alpha markings on the gear ring and the engraved "+/-" on the "A-FACE" of the tray as a guide to increase or decrease the effect.
