The project began with a consultation to determine the ideal camera build, focusing on compatibility, workflow needs, and long-term scalability. To support the decision-making process, we arranged on-site demos in collaboration with leading manufacturers – allowing the crew to get hands-on with the gear before committing. LinkedIn’s production team opted for the Canon C400 due to its compact size, great adaptability to field and studio use, and the efficient and powerful XF-HEVC S codec. They also purchased a variety of Canon lenses and Prompter People teleprompters.
For the director’s workstations, the LinkedIn team chose Inovativ Deploy carts for their durability, configurability, and relatively compact footprint. These builds feature workstation monitor arms, UPS power supplies, various mounted power strips, SmallHD monitors, and Sound Devices 833 recorders. AbelCine created a custom patch panel with color-coded inputs and outputs for SDI, audio, and power. We also designed and fabricated custom plates, carefully planning equipment placement for optimal access and ergonomics.
"We run small production teams in our studios, so having a central hub for our lighting control, video monitor, and audio pre-amp is crucial for our directors. Now, we're able to pull camera footage we just recorded from the cloud and review and edit footage right on set. The fact that it also acts as a power distribution hub is icing on the cake." – Scott Erickson (Senior Live Action Director, LinkedIn Learning)
AbelCine handled the full installation, configuration, and commissioning of all equipment on the carts. Every component – from monitors to power distribution – was integrated and tested to ensure seamless operation in the field. These custom cart solutions allow LinkedIn's directors to have a centralized hub for live monitoring, quick footage access, on-set keying, and even color grading.
This collaborative approach resulted in a versatile, on-set solution that supports LinkedIn’s fast-paced and flexible production environment, keeping crews focused on creative execution.
"When you’re a very lean production crew having to set up in multiple locations in a constrained amount of time, every efficiency counts. Being able to roll the cart out of the van, plug in our cameras, and instantly have a ready-to-go director’s station with video and audio monitoring was a total game-changer."
