At the Bench: Canon DP-V2410 4K Reference Monitor

Canon has been capturing high dynamic range imagery for many years now with their Cinema EOS camera lineup. For instance, their new C300 Mark II camera captures images with over 14 stops of dynamic range with an extremely wide color gamut.

Of course, this gives you a lot of flexibility in color correction, but unfortunately most monitoring that we use, either on set or in post, is limited to a standard dynamic range and Rec.709 colors.

This is why Canon has built a new reference display intended for both the field and post production. The DP-V2410 is a full 4K HDR display with a wide color gamut. This 24" display is built for the field with a rugged design and DC power inputs, but is also perfect for your color grading suite. This is an HDR (high dynamic range) display with 400 nit output edge to edge. It also features a color gamut close to Rec.2020, meaning that it also easily covers DCI-P3 and Rec.709. All that combined means you can actually see the dynamic range and color your camera can capture. Canon transforms are built in, but you can also load in appropriate 3D LUTs to work with any camera. It even has full ACES support. The V2410 is really a display built for a modern set, so watch my video above to learn more about this versatile tool.
