Upon hearing the term Asset Management System most production people think of a tape library or a system to keep track of equipment. In today's world of tapeless acquisition, our master assets are digital, and a comprehensive method to keep track of them is usually referred to as a Digital Asset Management system (DAM). The term Media Asset Management System is also widely used, and for our purposes they are interchangeable.

When you think of a 35mm sensor camera, what characteristics come to mind? Probably the first is shallow depth of field. It is part of what many consider the "look" of that imager size and a principle defining difference between it and other formats. But while some consider this the chief attribute of the format, others may find it to be a detriment in certain situations. For those shooting documentary, run-and-gun productions, a deeper depth of field may be preferable to maintain focus.

Canon's much anticipated EOS C300 is a modular Super-35 sized sensor camera available in both PL and EOS (EF) mount. The modular nature and size of the C300 means the camera can live in many configurations - from the fully decked out studio camera to a light-weight run-&-gun setup.

Soon after the announcement of the EOS Cinema C300, Canon brought the camera by and let us check it out. I put together this video with my first impressions of the camera.

I often get asked about the stuttering video motion, or judder, seen in 24p video. Even though we have all been watching or shooting 24p for years, for many of us it is new to see true 24p (or 23.98p) video displayed on a monitor.

We have had a number of different events over the last few months featuring Sony's F65 camera. The F65 offers unparallelled 8k resolution and produces stunning 4k imagery. We've done a lot of testing with it, and found both the resolution and dynamic range to be off the charts.
