The Sony PXW-FS5 II 4K XDCAM Super 35mm Compact Camcorder features a new look specifically tuned to meet the requirements of today’s content creators, with rich mid-range colors, alluring facial tones and a softer tonal look tuned with the same expertise as Sony’s world-leading VENICE digital cinema camera. Your content will look fresh and vivid straight out of the camera, with subjects that really stand out, while still retaining ample latitude for post production refinement due to the high performance Super 35 Exmor sensor.

FS5 II makes it easy to stand out above the crowd with complete creative freedom: slow down time with phenomenal high frame rates, up to four seconds at 120fps in 4K, 240fps in 2K/Full HD, and continuous 240fps in 2K RAW when used in partnership with a compatible third-party external recorder (such as the ATOMOS Shogun or Convergent Design Odyssey 7Q). Deliver spectacularly vivid HDR imagery with a choice of HLG and S-log2/3.

FS5 II also offers High Frame Rate (HFR) cache recording at Full HD 10bit 4:2:2 image quality and a frame rate of up to 240 fps. 8-second cache recording on to SDXC card means no more mistimed shots leading to extra takes. It also lets you pick out footage at exactly the point that you want. FS5 II also records continuous 120fps internally in Full HD. Higher frame rates of 480 fps and 960 fps are possible at specific resolutions.

Lightweight but robust, FS5 II is an adaptable camcorder for capturing breathtaking imagery anywhere, and its modular design makes it easy to reconfigure for any application, including mounting on a gimbal or drone.

Spectacular HDR Performance

Demand for HDR content is increasing and FS5 II offers you a choice of two powerful workflows. Whichever option you choose, a phenomenal 14 stops of exposure latitude ensures the highest fidelity in capturing highlights and details within shadows.

  • Instant HDR Workflow is all about speed; shoot, edit and view content in Hybrid Log-Gamma (HLG) to deliver content quickly without compromising on imaging expression and quality of content
  • S-Log2/3 is the proven choice for premium applications where you wish to capture as much data as possible for the ultimate flexibility in grading

4K Super 35 Exmor Sensor

FS5 II is built around a high-sensitivity 4K Super35 Exmor CMOS Sensor that offers all the benefits of a large format sensor in combination with the exceptional image readout speeds required for 4K motion-picture shooting and super slow motion. 11.6 million total pixels and 8.8 million1 effective pixels deliver 4K resolution. Even if you’re delivering in HD, your recordings will capture detail and image texture that HD sensors simply cannot see.

This Super 35 size sensor features pleasing "bokeh", the defocused background made possible by shallow depth of field, as well as excellent low-light sensitivity and an expansive field of view. 14 stops of exposure latitude deliver powerful grayscale rendition without crushing shadow detail or blowing out highlight detail. Sony’s Exmor CMOS design provides high-speed, full pixel read-out capability (without pixel binning) and sophisticated camera processing to ensure jaggies and moiré are minimised.

Record 10bit 4:2:2 in Full HD at up 50Mbps internally. Record 4K at 602/50 fps in FS-RAW via a compatible third-party external recorder, such as ATOMOS Shogun and Convergent Design Odyssey 7Q.

α Mount Flexibility

Sony’s α mount system offers unsurpassed compatibility with both Sony and third-party lenses. FS5 II’s E-Mount accepts cinema lenses and SLR lenses with a third-party adaptor (not included), as well as Sony’s E-mount and A-mount lenses natively.

You can also purchase FS5 II with lens SELP18105G (PXW-FS5M2K).

Integrated Electronic Variable ND Filter

FS5 II features Sony’s built-in electronic variable Neutral Density (ND) filter, further expanding the depth of field capability of its large format sensor. Unlike conventional optical ND Filters, the electronic ND Filter on FS5 II can be controlled from 1/4 ND to 1/128 ND, linearly. ND Filters can also be set to auto. This makes FS5 II ideal for fast-moving shoots in rapidly changing environments, with no need to change filters with lighting conditions.

New Look & Creative Picture Profiles

FS5 II features an all-new default look with beautiful highlights and subtle, well-rendered facial tones for more emotive visuals where your subjects naturally stand out. FS5 II saves time in post production while still providing all the flexibility and creative latitude you require. There are also an additional (9) Picture Profiles, including several customized for S-Log2 and S-Log3, and one profile specifically tuned to provide vibrant, high contrast visuals for creators who desire a DSLR-style look. Each profile can be individually adjusted to suit your specific requirements and you can switch between them in moments.

Clear Image Zoom

This proprietary Sony technology significantly extends your ability to get closer to a remote scene while preserving image quality. Once you’ve zoomed in at maximum optical magnification, By Pixel Super Resolution technology can enlarge the image by an additional 200% in Full HD and 150% in 4K. It is also compatible with fixed focal length lenses, so you can zoom while using a prime lens.

Lightweight, Modular & Robust

Despite its lightweight 1.7 lb (0.8 kg) camera body, FS5 II is more than tough enough for the rigors of field production. A magnesium chassis ensures high rigidity with 1/4"-20 threads on the handle, top, and bottom of the body to support mounting on a drone, gimbal, or in an underwater housing. A detachable Smart Grip places all of the FS5 II’s key functions at your fingertips, and is easily adjusted with the press of a single button.

Versatile monitoring

A high resolution 0.39" OLED viewfinder enables precise manual focus and is perfectly offset for right-eye or left-eye viewing. A 3.5" LCD screen can be attached in no less than nine different locations (three on top of the handle and an additional six on top of the body). Once attached, the positioning of the screen can be freely adjusted (e.g., beside the camera body or directly along the axis of the lens).

Networked for High Mobility

Live stream from any event thanks to a choice of Wi-Fi or built-in wired LAN. Control FS5 II from your smartphone or tablet. Built-in NFC supports one-touch authentication possible with appropriate devices. Be first with breaking news thanks to an integrated wired LAN jack for high-speed FTP transfer of full resolution content. The FS5 II's GPS function automatically records GPS data.

Dual SD Card Slots with Independent Record Control

To extend recording time and workflow flexibility, FS5 II is equipped with two SDXC/SDHC memory card slots. "RELAY" mode automatically switches recording from the first to the second memory card when the first is full, while "SIMUL" mode permits simultaneous recording to two memory cards (e.g., to create an immediate back-up version). FS5 II’s three start/stop buttons on the grip, handle, and camcorder body can independently start and stop recording on different memory cards while recording in "SIMUL" mode.

Multi-interface (MI) Shoe

FS5 II takes advantage of Sony’s flexible Multi-Interface (MI) Shoe, which provides power, signal connections and coordinated on/off switching to compatible Sony accessories. For example, you can connect and control Sony wireless microphone systems such as the UWP-D11 or UWP-D12 or attach the HVL-LBPC light.3

Dual XLR inputs

FS5 II features two XLR connecters. Even if you choose to remove the handle with its standard, easy-access XLR connector, a second on the body is still available, making it ideal for applications like shooting in a confined space (such as a car interior), or when mounting the camera on a gimbal.

The Sony SELP18105G 18-105mm E PZ f/4 E-Mount Zoom Lens is the first Sony G Series Lens created specifically for E-mount cameras, achieving outstanding resolution and contrast throughout the zoom range thanks to an advanced optical design incorporating two ED glass elements and three aspherical elements. From wide angle to medium telephoto, this power zoom lens covers approximately a 6x zoom range with a constant F4 aperture.

  • Image Stabilization: Optical SteadyShot
  • Focus System: Power Zoom
  • Filter Diameter: 72mm

Circular Aperture

When changing your aperture to defocus the background, the light sources appear blurred. This ‘bokeh’ effect of the blurred background can be enhanced with circular aperture blades used in this lens. Conventional aperture blades have flat sides creating unappealing polygonal shaped defocussed points of light. α lenses overcome this problem through a unique design that keeps the aperture almost perfectly circular from its wide-open setting to when it is closed by 2 stops. Smoother, more natural defocusing can be obtained as a result.

ED (Extra-Low Dispersion) Glass

As focal lengths get longer, lenses built with conventional optical glass have difficulties with chromatic aberration, and as a result images suffer from lower contrast, lower color quality, and lower resolution. ED glass dramatically reduces chromatic aberration at telephoto ranges, and provides superior contrast across the entire image, even at large aperture settings. Super ED glass provides enhanced compensation for chromatic aberration.

Aspherical Lens Elements

Aspherical lens design dramatically reduces spherical aberration while also reducing lens size and weight. Spherical aberration is a slight misalignment of the light rays projected on the image plane. This is caused by differences in refraction at different points on conventional spherical lenses which degrade image quality in large-aperture lenses. Specially shaped “aspherical” elements near the diaphragm restore alignment of light rays at the image plane, maintaining high sharpness and contrast even at maximum aperture and can also be used at other points in the optical path to reduce distortion. Well-designed aspherical elements can reduce the total number of elements required in the lens, thus reducing overall size and weight. Advanced Aspherical (AA) elements are an evolved variant, featuring an extremely high thickness ratio between the center and periphery. AA elements are exceedingly difficult to produce, relying on the most advanced molding technology to consistently and precisely achieve the required shape and surface accuracy, resulting in significantly improved image accuracy and quality.

Lens-Based Optical Image Stabilization

Gyro sensors built into the lens detect even the slightest movement, and the stabilization lens is precisely shifted to counteract any image blur that might occur. The use of precision, quiet linear motors and technology inherited from high-end Sony professional camcorders results in exceptionally quiet, effective image stabilization that contributes to high-quality movies as well as stills.

Internal Focusing

Only the middle groups of the optical system move to achieve focus, so the overall length of the lens does not change. Other important benefits include fast autofocusing and a short minimum focusing distance. Also, the filter thread at the front of the lens does not rotate, which is convenient if you’re using a polarizing filter.
