Overview
The BirdDog P4K 4K UHD PTZ Camera with NDI / HDMI / 6G-SDI Output features a large 1" Sony Exmor R CMOS backlit sensor with 14.4 million effective pixels, delivering stunning images in all shooting modes and frame rates, whether in HD or 4K with Full Bandwidth NDI. Excellent light sensitivity makes P4K ideal for all broadcast applications, sports, remote studios, newsrooms, houses of worship, and more.
In the world of NDI there are two flavors: NDI and NDI|HX. NDI is a variable bit rate, I-Frame codec that reaches around 140Mbits at 1080p60, and is visually lossless. NDI|HX is a compressed, long-GOP, H.264 variant that reaches around 12Mbits at 1080p60. P4K is a Full NDI camera.
True Cinematic Styles
P4K is a Pan-Tilt-Zoom camera designed for the most demanding live production shoots, supporting all the expected traditional frame rates (including 29.97). Now you can use your PTZ as a camera for TVC's or drama, shooting at 24p for that wonderful cinematic look.
Advanced Color Controls
With user selectable gamma settings and black gamma adjustment, fine tuning your shot has never been more flexible in a PTZ. Sony's legendary sensor technology sets the tone for your next quality production.
10-bit, NDI4
P4K features a 10-bit sensor, and with NDI4 you can have an end to end 10-bit workflow...ideal for broadcasters and other productions where bit depth matters. With 10-bit support you can record the NDI feeds using free tools such as NewTek NDI Monitor or IsoCorder Pro.
RESTful API
Download the free BirdDog RESTful API and program your own automation for all BirdDog hardware endpoints, including cameras.
Precise Robotic Control
P4K's robotics are extremely precise and sensitive. Wind down the panning and tilting speeds to create dramatic professional shots, or crank up the speeds for high action sports to follow the movement.
360° Tally Lights
The front, rear, and side Tally lights combine to create a 360° Tally light. Now everyone on set can easily see which camera is live.
Connectivity
Full NDI. Two independent 6G SDI outputs and one HDMI 2.0 output, all live all the time for flexible workflows.
Genlock
You can now synchronize multiple cameras using the Genlock input. All your cameras can be hitting your NDI-enabled vision mixer at the same time, eliminating the need to add frame buffers.
Adaptive Bit Rate
Full NDI is a variable bit rate codec. Under normal circumstances, BirdDog recommends allowing around 140Mbps in HD, or 6 streams per 1GbE cable with some headroom. In 4K it is recommended to allow around 300Mbps or 3 streams with some headroom to allow for any unforeseen spikes.
With BirdDog's tools you can select the bit rate to suit your bandwidth and requirements. In HD you can slide between 80-180Mbps and in 4K you can select the data rate to be anywhere between 60 and 360Mbps.
Optional HDBaseT & Fiber Modules
Added to the Full NDI, Baseband 6G SDI, Baseband HDMI 2.0, NDI HX2, H.264, HEVC/H.265 format support, you can also add HDBaseT with an optional module (sold separately). Add the optional Fiber module to run SDI over Fiber directly out of the camera.
ePTZ in HD Mode
In HD Mode you can take advantage of the massive sensor to create Region of Interest for your HD production. Pull any HD frame out of the 4K frame.

Free Software Tools
- Central Lite: team up Central Lite with any NDI source, including all BirdDog hardware capable of creating NDI sources; you can now drive your NDI streams to any BirdDog Studio NDI or Mini to decode NDI back to SDI or HDMI
- Cam Control: allows easy access to all settings of all the BirdDog cameras on your network; get the look you want on the full screen output monitor and then copy across multiple cameras to color match in seconds
