Overview
The Preston DM-2 Digital Motor is a smaller and lighter version of the original DM1. It is intended to perform the Focus, Iris or Zoom functions on all but the stiffest cinema lenses (such tasks should still be relegated to its bigger brother, the DM1). The length of the DM2 housing is 100mm (3.9"), compared to 120mm (4.7") for the DM1, while its weight has been reduced by 30%, from 415g to 290g.
It features the same rugged worm reduction gearing as the DM-1, with DLC coatings. It also shares motor housings which are machined from a solid bar of Magnesium alloy and coated with a special ceramic before painting. This combination provides exceptional resistance to salt spray and moisture. The small size and high resolution of the DM2 motor make it ideally suited for Steadicam and HDTV applications. Step-up gears are available for use with Panavision cinema lenses as well as Canon and Fujinon video lenses.
The mounting brackets are the same for both the DM-1 and DM-2, and are available for use with 15mm, 19mm, and 5/8" (0.625") Panavision rod systems.
The DM-2 may be used interchangeably as a zoom, focus or iris control motor. A 15mm mounting rod is fixed to the motor body.
NOTE: Motor ships with 15mm rod and 0.8m output gear.
