Description
Beginner
In this course, you will learn the Art of Look Creation and will go deep into discoveries in the area of Color Science.
Overview

Overview

***PLEASE NOTE: These virtual training sessions will take place in the PACIFIC TIME ZONE.***

This Winter, we are offering a select group of professionals an opportunity to learn about Film. And by Film, we mean celluloid. The original image capture and processing method before there was a digital camera. This course is led by Dado Valentic, an award-winning master colorist, color scientist, trainer, and AI innovator in collaboration with a group of an elite group of guest lecturers.

Today, the modern post-production landscape has all-but-abandoned the apprenticeship model. So, exposure to industry-leading mentors who coach the next generation of colorists and teaching the technical expertise needed to reach Hollywood-class level expectations is difficult to find.

This is a unique opportunity for a selected group of professionals to learn more about color grading and how the color pipeline works.

Applicants do not need to be colorists but will need to have a working proficiency in Davinci resolve.

***REQUIREMENTS TO PARTICIPATE***

Prospective students interested in the program should meet the following requirements, if you can not meet these requirements this course is not for your skill level.

  • Have more than three years of industry experience

  • Have working proficiency in Davinci resolve

  • Be willing to make a time commitment of min 3-4 hours per week to participate in the course

  • Have good collaboration skills and be ready to share the creative process

WHY FILM?

One of the greatest desires that every filmmaker, cinematographer, or colorist has is to make their images more 'filmic.' Everyone seems to be after that elusive Filmic Look. Suppose we are to learn and study in more detail how Film works. Would we then be able to decide better when something looks filmic and then develop a greater sensitivity and understanding of the process that would help us discover the real magic that happens in front of our eyes when we shoot on Film?

WHAT TO EXPECT?

Four weeks of a realtime training program with four modules

  1. Module One is dedicated to Cinema Theory Studies. Each week we will analyze a movie, its look and learn more about the work of its Director, Cinematographer, and Colorist.

  2. Module Two is dedicated to Film technology studies, and each week we will be focusing on subjects such as Film Image Structure, Photographic Sensitometry, Film Types, Laboratory Tools, and Techniques.

  3. Module Three is dedicated to guest lectures by Hollywood's leading color scientists, colorists, cinematographers, and film manufacturing representatives.

  4. Module Four is the practical module, where each week, participants will be required to build looks decks and create looks inspired by each week's study.

Participants will work with Davinci Resolve and will be provided with a free license for a new set of tools to enhance their grading skillset.

  1. Colourlab Ai - a machine learning shot matching application

  2. LOOK DESIGNER 2.1 - a creative look development tool

  3. GRAINLAB - texture emulation plugin
