Recently, AbelCine organized a focus group with select cinematographers and specialists from Canon to review the new Dual Pixel Auto Focus (DAF) upgrade for the C300 camera. The consensus was that for $500, this is a feature worth many times its cost, as it expands the universe of the types of shots that can be achieved.

Canon has definitely made a commitment to bringing new features to their EOS line of cameras with various firmware updates. For users of the C100 and C300, one of the most useful of these is the addition of a Wide DR Gamma.

Over the last several months Canon has been announcing updates to their EOS Cinema line of cameras. Canon has definitely shown a firm commitment to upgrading their cameras in response to user feedback. With so many recent updates, and more on the way, we wanted to put together a quick timeline for each of their cameras.

Today, Canon announced an optional update for the C300 that will add support for the Dual Pixel Autofocus function. This update was also introduced for the C100 in November.

Canon has Look Up Tables (LUTs) on their website for their Cinema EOS line of cameras – the C100, C300 and C500. These LUTs are designed to convert from Canon Log to Rec709 or Cineon. Originally, they were published with only the C300 in mind, but they were later updated to work for the C100 and C500 as well.

Today's quick tip involves changing the white balance on the Canon C300 and C500. There are actually five white balance modes to choose from, selectable via the Function button at the back of the camera. The Function button also allows you to change your ISO and shutter speed, so today i'm going to show you how to dedicate one of the assignable buttons to white balance, which is great for very fast adjustments.

It seems like just yesterday we announced our 2013 AbelCine Documentary Grant and put out a call for submission videos to be uploaded to Vimeo. After a round of public voting, ten finalists were chosen and now, after much deliberation, our judging committee has decided on the three winners. Congratulations to Steven Liang, Danilo Lima, and Ecar Oden for being named the 2013 AbelCine Documentary Grant winners!

The HDx35 Mark II is an optical adapter manufactured by IB/E Optics that allows you to put B4-mount 2/3" HD lenses onto Super-35 sensor cameras. This enables the use of high-quality, long-range HD zooms with the latest generation of digital cinema cameras. The new Mark II edition has a larger image projection to fully cover the large sensor of the Canon C100/C300/C500 cameras.

Canon recently announced their new 1.0.8.1.00 firmware for the C300.
