The Sony Alpha a7 III Mirrorless Digital Camera Body with 28-70mm Lens offers a compact body packed with the latest technologies. This camera includes a Full-Frame sensor with the new 24.2MP back-illuminated Exmor R CMOS sensor with evolved image processing, interchangeable mount, plus a host of other goodies.

Features:

  • Full-frame 24.2MP back-illuminated Exmor R CMOS sensor
  • Captures 4K(3840x2160) at up to 30fps high resolution footage with full pixel readout and no pixel binning across the full width of its full-frame sensor
  • Wide ISO range of 100 to 51200 (expandable to ISO 50 to 204800 for still images)
  • Improved autofocus system with 693 phase-detection AF points, covering 93% of image area
  • Continuous shooting with either Mechanical Shutter or Silent Shooting at up to 10fps (in Hi+ Mode, dependent on camera settings)
  • Updated BIONZ X processing engine that boosts speed by approximately 1.8x compared to the a7 II
  • 5-axis optical image stabilization inside the camera with a 5.0 step shutter speed advantage for Pitch/Yaw
  • Enhanced battery life length with the longest rated battery life of any Mirrorless camera at product launch
  • Addition of:
    • Joystick for adjusting focus points
    • Dual SD Card Slots
    • SuperSpeed USB (USB 3.1 Gen 1) with USB Type-C port

Full-Frame Coverage and New Sensor

A newly developed sensor with full-frame coverage is just the tip of the iceberg for this expanded tech camera, which includes a 15-Stop Dynamic Range at low sensitivity. The 24.2MP back-illuminated Exmor R CMOS sensor is paired with a front-end LSI that effectively doubles the readout speed of the image sensor, as well as an updated BIONZ X™ processing-engine that boosts processing speed by approximately 1.8 times compared to the α7 II.

The camera shoots at impressive speeds with high sensitivity. The ISO ranges from 100 to 51200 (expandable to ISO 50 to 204800 for still images) and an overall 1.5 stop improved image quality*.

The dynamic range of this camera ensures great performance in all shooting conditions. It also helps produce accurate skin tone color and the natural vibrant qualities of nature's palette.

* NOTE: Limited to 12-bits during compressed RAW continuous shooting, BULB exposure, or when Long Exposure NR is ON.

Autofocus with Increased Speed and Performance

The AF system on the a7 III offers 693 phase-detection AF points, inherited from the alternate a9 camera model, which covers 93% of the image area. This provides you with the ability to track even the most difficult to capture subjects. The autofocus system includes 425 contrast AF points and both fast and reliable Eye AF.

Improvements in low-light AF are also included in the camera functionality through improved AF response and tracking. The camera delivers almost 2x the focusing speed in low-light and 2x the tracking speed, when compared to the prior camera model. This is due to faster image sensor readout so you can capture complex or unpredicatble motion with accuracy and precision.

Eye AF is available even in AF-C mode for capturing the subject when they turn around or their face and eyes are otherwise obstructed, such as when a person looks down or is somehow obstructed from camera view. Eye AF continues to function with optional A-Mount lenses.

You can now use the added Joystick to select moving docus points. Also, the camera provides touch focusing capabilities, a Focus Magnifier Mode, and much more.

Resolution and Imagery

The a7 III outputs 14-Bit RAW format, even in silent and continious shooting modes. It captures 4K (3840x2160) across the entire full-frame image sensor. Due to oversampling techniques, the sensor footage is filled with exceptional detail and depth. Used in Video Mode, Sony a7 III uses full pixel readout, without pixel binning, to collect approximately 2.4x the amount of data required for 4K footage.

You can now shoot full resolution images at up to 10 fps with continuous, accurate AF/AE tracking for up to 177 Standard JPEG images, 89 compressed images or 40 uncompressed RAW images. This functionality is available in silent shooting or with mechanical shutter.

In addition, capture up  to 8fps in Live View Mode with minimal lag in the viewfinder or LCD screen.

For added convenience, while large groups of burst images are being written to the memory card, many of the cameras key functions are operable, including access to the "Fn" (Function) and "Menu" buttons, image playback and several other menus and parameters including image rating and other functions that facilitate on-location image sorting.

Accommodate fluorescent or artificial lighting easily with the a7 III when you activate a Anti-Flicker function. That allows your a7 III to detect frequency of lighting and time the shutter to minimize its affect on captured imagery. This minimizes any exposure or color anomalies that can sometimes occur at the top and bottom of images shot at high shutter speeds.

NOTE: Only 100 Hz and 120 Hz flicker is detected. Continuous shooting speed may decrease. Flicker-free shooting is not available during silent shooting, BULB exposure, or movie recording

Workflow and Color

Instant HDR Workflow is supported with the camera's HLG or Hybrid Log-Gamma picture profile. HDR (HLG) compatible TVs can connect to your compatible Sony TV via a USB cable to view the HDR (HLG) movies with true-to-life 4K HDR imagery.

Both S-Log2 and S-Log3 are available for increased color grading flexibility, as well as Zebra functionality, Gamma Display assist and proxy recording. The camera can also record Full HD at 120 fps at up to 100 Mbps, allowing footage to be reviewed and eventually edited into 4x or 5x slow motion video files in Full HD resolution with AF tracking.

Additional Functionality and Features

Several other enhanced features from the a9 are incorporated into the a7 III, including:

  • Dual Media Slots - supports UHS-II type SD memory cards in one slot. Store content as JPEG/RAW recording, separate movies and stills, relay recording, and much more
  • Expanded Battery Life - with a CIPA measurement of up to 710 shots per charge, the a7 III offers the longest battery life in any Mirrorless camera as of product launch. The camera features Z Series battery NP-FZ100 with approximately 2.2 times the capacity of the battery in your a7 II camera
  • "My Menu" Functionality - Permits up to 30 items registered for instant recall. You can apply Star Ratings to still images for easy playback and review, plus edit first characters of still image files. You can also assign 11 custom buttons out of a total of 81 functions in the camera.
  • Dust and Moisture-Resistant body
  • Accepts E-Mount optional accessories
  • Tru-Finder Viewfinder - high-contrast and fast-start XGA OLED Tru-Finder provides approx. 2.3 million dots for image accuracy. You can select from options of Standard or High display quality settings (for monitor or viewfinder).
  • File Transfers - capable of seamlessly transferring files to your smartphone, tablet, computer or FTP server via Wi-Fi, while also offering a SuperSpeed USB (USB 3.1 Gen 1) USB Type-C Terminal for increased flexibility in power supply and faster image transfer speed during tethered shooting.

In addition, your a7 III comes with the software suite Imaging Edge. This will extend your creative capabilities across your workflow process, from shooting to post. Includes Free downloads of (3) computer applications: Remote, Viewer, and Edit.

Version 1.1 features 10% faster data transfer speeds from PC (PC tether shooting) and approx. 65% improvement in response speed for RAW image editing.

FE 28-70mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS Zoom Lens

This camera comes with a wide-angle to portrait-length FE 28-70mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS Zoom Lens. Includes an autofocus motor with internal focusing design for quiet autofocus. Lens features (1) extra-low dispersion element and (3) aspherical elements to control chromatic and sperical aberrations throughout the zoom range. Sony's image stabilization called Optical SteadyShot minimizes camera shake. The lens is suited for inclement weather due to its sealed design.
