Overview

Overview

The Fujinon MK 18-55mm T2.9 Compact Cine Zoom - E-Mount is ideal for indie filmmakers or the run-and-gun single shooter using a shoulder rig and a Sony E-Mount camera. MK lenses are both fast and affordable by comparison to other cine lenses on the market. Image coverage is 28.5mm diagonal (13.97mm x 24.84mm in Super35 16:9 format).

The operator can swap lenses on an E-Mount camera with ease between this MK 18-55mm lens and the 50-135mm (sold separately). Focus, iris, and zoom gear rings are in the same position for both lenses, the first in the Fujinon MK lens family. In addition, no adjustments would be required when switching between MK lenses if the user has both a follow focus and mattebox equipped, due to identical exterior dimensions (85mm outside diameter and 82mm filter threads). Thanks to comparable weight, you can also switch between MK lenses without adjusting balance. This lens is color matched to the Fujinon HK/ZK/XK series.

It offers 0.8 pitch gearing in a cine-style and manual rings for focus, zoom, and iris. A seamless iris avoids vibrations and noise.

The E-mount short flange back helps deliver the lightweight size of these lenses. It also assisted Fujinon in providing a constant T2.9 aperture.

Suppressing Focus Shifts During Zoom

Unlike conventional DSLR lenses where the focal point shifts while zooming, the Fujinon MK lenses retain the focal point so you do not need to refocus when you shift the angle of view. MK Lenses suppress focus shifts by driving the front focus group and the zoom group independently. The lenses eliminate time lags normally found with electronic controls by suppressing both optically and mechanically.

Zoom with Reduced Optical Axis Shift

The MK Lens family reduces the optical shift which occurs in a DSLR lens while zooming. Fujinon adapted assembly technology from their other cine lens lines when designing the MK lenses. That means you gain the benefit of a zoom which stays composed on your subject.

Subdued Lens Breathing

DSLR lenses produce an unnatural change in the angle of view and magnification which creates lens breathing. MK lenses suppress lens breathing because of their internal focus system. The photo comparison Fujinon uses shows how a DSLR lens will seem to expand or breathe after you focus. Some bloggers explain this phenomenon by framing a doorway or a definable image so you can clearly see the change from maximum to minimum focus distance.

Integrated Color Temperatures

Match your existing Fujinon Cine Lenses in the HK, XK, or ZK families with integrated color temperatures. Your post production team will thank you when you deliver A and B camera footage which matches color temperature.

Bokeh Effects & A Lack of Flare

The 9-blade iris helps produce a beautiful bokeh. Bloggers agree that there is very little lens flaring with the MK 18-55mm.

Macro Mode

The MK 18-55mm includes a macro mode on an adjustable ring at the back of the lens. Documentary run-and-gun operators will appreciate the ability to shift to close focus with the macro settings. No need to swap to another lens for that book, sign, or fine detail your director requires.

200° Focus Rotation Angle

Typical DSLR lenses provide only a 100° angle while the MK Lenses offer double that with 200°. With the MK lenses you can focus on images with shallow depth of field and capture with high accuracy. Zoom is 90° and Iris is 60°.
