While camera stabilization systems are not a new concept, every once in a while a system comes along that fundamentally alters the way we utilize camera movement in our work. A classic example of this would be when Garrett Brown introduced the world to the Steadicam in 1975, or with recent compact dollys innovations from Kessler Crane or MYT Works. Recently, we were introduced to a new system from Freefly Systems that opens up a new realm of possibilities for camera movement that breaks free from the established formula.

AbelCine worked with action cinematographer Jim Geduldick on a project to test an early release version of the new Phantom Miro M320S camera. Jim produced and directed a test shoot at Camp Woodward in Pennsylvania, which involved skateboarders, BMX, and dirt bike riders from all over the east coast. Camp Woodward is an amazing facility that began over thirty years ago and has helped define "extreme sports" for several generations since.

Get a closer look at the making of Police Dive, a short documentary directed and filmed by Teresa Carante, one of our 2024 Fresh Perspectives in Cinematography grantees. Police Dive focuses on Sergeant Mike Berry, one of the world's leading underwater investigators. Based at the Virginia State Police and with over 40 years of experience as a public safety diver, Sgt. Berry has pioneered innovative retrieval techniques and managed high-stakes diving investigations across the globe.
