Live from NY: It’s Post-NAB 2017

Our annual Post-NAB event that we held in NY earlier this week was a success — we had a great turnout and more gear than ever before. During the event, we tried something new and streamed interviews with some manufacturers directly to Facebook Live. If you missed those interviews, don’t worry, you can watch them all below!

AbelCine Post-NAB: ARRI Updates

In this segment from our live stream, Geoff spoke with Michael Best from ARRI about their software updates for the WCU-4, which now allows transfer of lens data files directly from the handset to the camera wirelessly. Also new is a community website for sharing these data files among camera assistants and DITs.

AbelCine Post-NAB: Canon Updates

Jeff had a chance to spend some time with Canon’s Paul Hawxhurst, Professional Market Specialist, to discuss a wide range of topics starting with Canon’s new flagship studio and feature camera, the C700. We also hear about Canon’s new Compact Servo 70-200mm, a great companion lens for their 18-80mm version introduced last year as well as improvements to Canon’s RAW format on the C700.

AbelCine Post-NAB: G-Technology Updates

Geoff caught up with Chris Bradley from G-Technology to talk about their new Evolution Series rugged SSD and hard drive enclosures, which also slot into the new G-Speed Shuttle XL – now with Thunderbolt 3 – for automated backup to a RAID array. Also, now with Thunderbolt 3, is their G-RAID 2-bay enclosure which also features a built-in HDMI port for viewing files directly from the enclosure. Lastly, for even more protection for your data, Chris shows an ultra-rugged enclosure that is both dust- and water-proof.

AbelCine Post-NAB: RED Updates

Join Jeff for an update on RED’s new HELIUM sensor, shown here in a carbon-fiber bodied WEAPON camera, as well as information on RED’s rich module ecosystem for expanding, or minimizing, their cameras’ footprints and capabilities.

AbelCine Post-NAB: Sony Updates

Geoff joined Takuro Ema, Sony’s product manager for their camcorder line, to talk about their new X-OCN R7 RAW recorder for the CineAlta F5 and F55 cameras, as well as the forthcoming 4.0 version firmware for Sony’s popular FS5 camera, which will add Hybrid Log Gamma to the camera, for compatibility with HDR and the emerging REC2020 video standard.

AbelCine Post-NAB: Zeiss Updates

In the above video, Jeff chats with Zeiss’ Rich Schleuning, Senior Director in their Camera Lens Division, who shares an exciting look at the successor to their wildly popular Compact Prime lenses, the new CP.3 line. Featuring new eXtended Data technology, an updated focus mechanism, and a ton of other great features and improvements, these lenses are worth a close look.
