NAB 2018: Wrap-Up

It's a wrap! As NAB 2018 was winding down I took part in a panel discussion with Jem Schofield of theC47.com, who you may recognize as an AbelCine blog contributor and instructor, as well as Erik Naso and Matt Allard from Newsshooter, our partner for NAB 2018 coverage.

Everyone's always excited about new gear, but with so many pre-NAB announcements we saw only a couple of cameras actually introduced at the show: Blackmagic's new 4K Pocket Cinema Camera, a long-awaited update to their popular first version, and Sony's updated FS5 II with new color science, including RAW and high-frame rate licenses. For our impressions on everything from lighting to lenses, the emerging full format ecosystem to ProRes RAW, and trends for the future, watch the video above to see each of the panelists' take-aways from the show.

If you're up for even more NAB 2018 coverage, head over to Newsshooter for their wrap-up article. Also, check out the videos below from the Digital Cinema Society and NoFilmSchool to find out more about AbelCine's own CameoGrip.

Tutorials & Guides
AbelCine’s NAB 2018 presence is all about full format. “Full format” is the term we use to describe the tools, techniques and hardware emerging around the creation of motion content using cameras with sensors of approximately 36mm x 24mm or larger, but smaller than the traditional large format sizes of 65mm film and beyond. In this post, I give our perspective on this emerging, yet also familiar and classic, capture medium.
