Overview
The Tiny Lockit is a solid, highly accurate, temperature-compensated timecode generator. Except for the sync signal output, it comprises the full functionality of its big brother, the Lockit Sync Box, including ACN (Ambient Lockit Network) support, metadata transfer and logging.
The Tiny Lockit is a fully functional, generator-buffered timecode transceiver. This provides the stability of an Ambient Clockit Generator with the flexibility of a wireless TC system, but without the fear of dropouts. The Tiny Lockit also offers a variable timecode output level for recording TC on audio track. In this manner, non-timecode capable cameras can be integrated into professional workflows.
With firmware 3.1 and above, the ACN-TL is able to continuously compare its internal generated time code with other ACN devices. This way a drift can be completely avoided. Find the latest firmware upgrade to ensure your Tiny Lockit features the latest functionality.
Plugged in into a computer, the Tiny Lockit transforms into a highly-accurate Midi Timecode Interface with LTC / Midi Timecode conversion. This opens up the possibility to sync multiple cameras with a Pro Tools workstation, for example. The second LEMO connector is used for TC or communications and can be configured as USB, RS232, or GP I/O.
Power
The ACN-TL Tiny Lockit can be powered by AAA Alkaline, Li-Ion, or NiMH rechargeable batteries. A battery icon on the upper right corner of the OLED display will indicate battery life status.
The Tiny Lockit can also be powered via 6 to 18 V DC via the TC LEMO 4-pin socket or via 5 V DC via the ACN LEMO socket. That handy little icon of a battery will switch to inform you that EXT or USB is the external power source.
Tiny Lockit Portable Unit
The portable, picket-sized Tiny Lockit includes an OLED display. The housing for the ACN-TL includes a bright blue face with abbreviations or icons next to the ports along the sides for fast reference in the field. Ports include:
- External antenna connector
- LEMO ACN Socket (USB, LANC, and DC OUT)
- LEMO TC Socket (ASCI, Tune Signal, PPF, and DC IN)
- IR Transceiver (communication port for ACC501 controller)
The Tiny Lockit includes a 3-function configuration switch (just like the Master Lockit function) to allow you to push in or toggle left or right in response to cues on the OLED display. LED status lights assist you with both status and troubleshooting.
Workflow with FREE LockitScript App
When you register you Tiny Lockit after purchase, you will receive a FREE license to Ambient's LockitScript App. One of the benefits of the LockitScript App is how your script supervisor can receive clip metadata information from your ARRI ALEXA or RED DSMC cameras, plus create reports, logs and notes to help speed up your post production process.
You can learn more about LockitScript App. Remember that you receive a free license with purchase of the Tiny Lockit.
Graphical UI & Operational Modes
Consecutive, interactive menus on the OLED ease fail safe configuration and guide the user through step-by-step initial configuration. Ambient recommends using the Standard View unless you have limitations to your required configuration.
The Mode Menu offers five options:
INT TC - a classic Lockit mode, the unit runs on its internal generator with standalone accuracy of .1ppm, ACN disabled. MIDI timecode (MTC) will be put out over LEMO ACN.
C-JAM - an enhanced jam algorithm for maximum operation comfort and safety. One unit frequently sends out broadcasts to which the other connected devices intelligently align and adjust their clock speed.
TRX - an ACN TC radio link where the Tiny Lockit acts as an auto-configuring transceiver.
EXT TC - device serves as a bidirectional LTC to MIDI timecode convertor.
READER (only available with the optional Lockit Slate) - visualize external LTC on the slate.
NOTE: Selecting a sync output is not available in TRX, EXT TC, or Reader.
In addition, you can allow manual changes to userbits on the fly within an Edit function. If you prefer a static ID you can set Jam to Off.
Rugged Yet Tiny
Due to its smaller form factor the ACN-TL is especially suitable for applications on small cameras.
Thanks to the machined, pearl-blasted and anodized aluminum body the Tiny Lockit can easily withstand the roughest production conditions.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Switching between PAL and NTSC or Non-Drop and Drop rates will restart the generator with the new time base and interrupt the video or audio sync signal. Doing this while recording will result in a corrupted file.
