IBC 2015: Camera Accessory Updates

IBC Blog header-3

This year's IBC show was a busy one. We've been posting a few of my blogs from the show floor, but they were certainly not the only product updates worth paying attention to. In this roundup, we'll focus on some of the new camera accessory products from Anton Bauer, ARRI, Boxx, RED, and Wooden Camera. Make sure to check out all the videos.

Anton Bauer CINE Batteries

Anton Bauer has introduced their new line of CINE batteries designed specifically for professional cinematographers. The CINE series delivers 12 amps of continuous power and features Fuse Link technology, meaning that if something were to go wrong with one of the cells, the surrounding cells would be protected from damage. Anton Bauer definitely listened to a lot of feedback from their users in designing these new batteries, so watch my video above to learn more.

New ARRI Accessories

I stopped by the ARRI booth to speak with Philip Vischer, ARRI PCA Product Manager, and ran into a special guest: Jon Fauer of Film & Digital Times. Together they showed off the new Anti-Reflection Frame, which allows one or two glass filters to be stacked and angled, giving users the ability to reduce any unwanted reflections. Additionally, Philip showed me a number of new accessories for the C300 Mark II, including a redesigned top plate and a broadcast plate. He also showed off a similar accessory setup for their own camera, the ALEXA Mini.

Boxx Atom Wireless System

Over at the Boxx booth, I got a chance to speak with Technical Director Scott Walker about their new Atom Wireless System. The Atom is a zero-delay video assist solution with a 600 meter (1968.5 ft) range. It operates on the 5 Ghz license-exempt band and is designed to work well in multi-camera environments, making use of the available spectrum to ensure reliable coverage. Watch my video above for more details.

RED WEAPON Accessories

Over at the RED booth, they were showing off a couple of new accessories for the WEAPON. First, I got a closer look at the new RED TOUCH LCD, which features a 4.7" display with 1280x720 resolution and weighs only .5 lbs. Next up was their new 1080p OLED EVF, which is designed to be compatible with the SCARLET and EPIC, as well as the WEAPON. It also features a modular optical design, which allows the actual viewfinder optic to be removed and replaced. Watch my video above to see these new accessories set up on the WEAPON.

Wooden Camera Updates

I got a chance to speak with Ryan Schorman of Wooden Camera about their new camera accessories for the RED WEAPON, including an intelligent Top Plate which features two LCD/EVF interfaces that convert the pogo pins to standard 16 pin Lemos. Ryan also gave me a detailed look at their Quick Release Cage system for the ALEXA Mini, as well as their custom D-Box (available in Gold Mount or V Mount).
