Join us in LA on Wednesday, March 6, along with RED and ZEISS, for an educational evening where we will go beyond the buzzwords and explore the latest technological innovations in the high-end cinema space. 

We have brought together a fantastic panel of industry professionals to discuss the evolution of smarter, higher-resolution camera and lens systems. They will also discuss where this technology will be going in the future and what this means for us today. Discussion topics include:

Beyond 4K, the Reality of 8K & HDR Acquisition Today – A run through of RED cameras today, including the 8K HELIUM and MONSTRO. Footage will be screened. Discussion points will include 8K application, the Olympics, and the advantages of oversampling. 

Building a Smarter Lens – A discussion of ZEISS' cinema lenses and Extended Lens Data system, plus an explanation of how the Lens Data System works with RED and how it can greatly impact any VFX workflow. Topics will include how ZEISS lenses can resolve 8K and cover full-frame cameras, plus how lens data can be applied to 8K, 4K, and HD workflows. 

 

Speakers

Scott Anderson – An Academy Award-winning visual effects supervisor, Scott is known for creative projects of both epic scale, as well as workflow and technical expertise. He is an experienced leader working across disciplines from creative concept development through focused research, systems engineering and project management.

Eric Branco – Cinematographer and winner of Audience Award at Sundance for the feature film Clemency. Eric has lensed several feature films including Emerald City (dir. Colin Broderick) and V/H/S (dir. Glenn McQuaid). He has also shot numerous short films, such as Night Shift (dir. Marshall Tyler), The River (dir. Sam Handel), Olive (dir. Alfonso Johnson), and The Compositor (dir. John Mattiuzzi), winner of a 2013 Student Academy Award. His work has screened at festivals worldwide, including Sundance, TriBeCa, Slamdance and SXSW.

Cameron Covell – Born and raised in Los Angeles, Cameron knew from an early age he would be in the movie business. Whether it was his affinity for being in front of and behind the lens, or the similarity between his first name and the word "camera," his destiny, it seemed, was inescapable. After graduating USC film school, Cameron began working as a filmmaker at the production company/YouTube channel RocketJump, making his fate become a reality. Beyond having his films screen at numerous film festivals, and having his work displayed at the Smithsonian in Washington DC, Cameron has grossed over 100 million views on the short films he has worked on through RocketJump.

Dan Duran – Dan is currently an 8K Workflow Specialist at RED. He has been with RED Digital Cinema since 2007. He is the face of many RED educational videos as well as RED’s post production and workflow guru. Most recently, he's been on the front lines visiting production companies, rental houses, and post facilities catering to their workflow needs and promoting best practices while utilizing RED cameras and footage.

Jay Holben – Jay is an independent producer and director in Los Angeles, California. He is an author of two commercially-published books on cinematography, a contributing editor for American Cinematographer Magazine, faculty instructor for Global Cinematography Institute and international lecturer, an Associate member of the ASC and the co-chair of the ASC Motion Imaging Technology Council Lens Committee.

Jan-Michael Losada – Jan-Michael is a Director of Photography who found his home in the world of New Media. WHe has worked alongside the talents of Rocket Jump, Corridor Digital, Mystery Guitar Man, Mike Diva and many more to make viral shorts, web series and VMA award winning music video's. Though he is classically trained, he likes being on the cutting edge of technology, often shooting high concept imagery. He does however also shoot traditional content, and has lensed a number of feature length films.

Snehal Patel – Snehal is currently the Cine and Applications Specialist at Zeiss. He is a film and television professional with over two decades of experience creating content and adapting new technology. He grew up in Chicago where he began is career, then moved to Mumbai for a few years, participating in one of the largest entertainment industries in the world. Since 2006, Snehal has lived and worked in Los Angeles. He is proud to call Hollywood his home and looks forward to telling many more stories.

Chris Probst, ASC – Chris has been a full-time director of photography for the past 15 years. He worked several years as an AC and then camera operator for ASC members including Steven Poster, John Newby and Denis Lenoir before moving up to shoot commercials and music videos. Probst shoots commercials ranging from high-end car spots to tabletop work to glossy beauty/fashion ads. His credits include the recently Ad Week-named “Ad of the Decade” for Turkish Airlines, and such clients as Lexus, Mercedes, Infiniti, BMW, Lincoln, Samsung, McDonalds, Johnnie Walker and Adidas. He most recently photographed the pilot and 2nd episode of director David Fincher’s Netflix series Mindhunter.
